Nineteen-year-old midfielder Alejandro Garnacho admitted he didn't think he could score a spectacular overhead kick in England's 3-0 win against Everton in the 13th round of the Premier League.
"To be honest, I couldn't believe it," Garnacho said after the game at Goodison Park. "I just launched myself and didn't know how I scored. I just listened to the atmosphere around me. I said, 'Oh my God,' and of course, for me, it's one of the most beautiful goals I've ever scored. I'm so happy."

In the 3rd minute, from a cross into the penalty area by Diogo Dalot, Garnacho turned and executed an overhead bicycle kick into the far corner, beating goalkeeper Jordan Pickford. After scoring the spectacular goal, the Argentinian winger performed a spinning celebration reminiscent of his idol Cristiano Ronaldo.
Garnacho's first Premier League goal of the season is considered a strong contender for the Goal of the Season award, or even the Puskas Award – FIFA's Goal of the Year. It has also been compared to Rooney's spectacular overhead kick in the Manchester derby at Old Trafford in February 2011 and Ronaldo's goal against Juventus in the Champions League quarter-finals in 2018.
When asked about the comparisons, Garnacho replied: "I think the two goals are very similar and I don't know which one is better. Both are incredible goals."
Besides Garnacho, another striker who opened his Premier League account this season was Anthony Martial with a close-range finish to seal the 3-0 victory in the 75th minute. In between, Marcus Rashford converted a penalty.
The Argentinian winger was pleased with his team's crucial victory that propelled them into the top six of the Premier League and is now ready for their away match against Galatasaray in the penultimate Group A of the Champions League on November 29th. Man Utd currently sit bottom of the group with three points, one point behind Galatasaray and Copenhagen, while Bayern have already secured qualification as group winners.
"We have to beat Galatasaray," Garnacho emphasized. "Then, at the weekend, we need to keep winning to stay close to the top four."
Garnacho was born in Madrid to a Spanish father and an Argentinian mother. In 2020, he joined the Manchester United academy after a successful spell at Atletico Madrid. Garnacho, who previously played for the Spanish youth team, is considered a fast, direct left-wing forward with good finishing ability.
Garnacho won the FA Youth Cup and the Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year award in May 2022. A month earlier, Garnacho made his first-team debut at the age of 17 in a 1-1 draw against Chelsea in the Premier League. In April 2023, Garnacho extended his contract with Man Utd until the end of the 2027-2028 season, earning a weekly salary of $63,000. He currently has six goals and five assists in 52 appearances for the Man Utd first team.
