Steel prices today, April 16, 2025, in the domestic market.

According to the steel price list dated April 16, 2025, the price of CB240 (D6, D8) steel coils in the North and South reached 13,550 VND/kg, while the Central region recorded a higher price of 13,650 VND/kg. For ribbed steel bars, the price of CB300 ranged from 13,450 VND/kg (South, D12-D28) to 13,750 VND/kg (Central region, D10), while CB400 and CB500 were priced from 13,550 VND/kg to 13,850 VND/kg, with the Central region continuing to lead in price. Compared to April 15, 2025, steel prices increased slightly by about 20-270 VND/kg, especially in the Central region, where construction demand is surging thanks to infrastructure projects.

The stability of steel prices on April 16, 2025, indicates that the market is entering a period of equilibrium after significant fluctuations in the first quarter of 2025. According to sources, domestic steel prices increased by 200-500 VND/kg since the beginning of the year due to rising raw material import costs and government investment stimulus policies. However, the slight increase on April 16, 2025, shows that major manufacturers such as Hoa Phat , Southern Steel, and Viet Nhat are maintaining stable supply, effectively meeting both domestic and export demand.

Steel prices today, April 16, 2025, on the world market.

Steel and iron ore prices on international exchanges recorded slight increases. May-delivery rebar futures on the Shanghai Futures Exchange reached 3,052 yuan/tonne, up 0.26%. Iron ore futures on the Dalian Futures Exchange rose 0.6% to 757.5 yuan/tonne, while on the Singapore Futures Exchange, iron ore prices reached $98.13/tonne, up $1.01. This development indicates a gradual market recovery, but still faces risks from trade policies and the global political situation.

The global steel industry is paying close attention to the dispute between the UK and China's Jingye Group, owner of British Steel. UK Business Secretary Jonathan Reynolds has declared that China is not welcome in the domestic steel industry after Jingye rejected a £500 million support package to keep its blast furnaces at Scunthorpe operating at a significant loss.

If British Steel's blast furnaces close, the UK risks becoming the only major economy unable to produce primary steel from iron ore, severely impacting its industrial capacity. The British government fears Jingye will import semi-finished steel from China for processing, jeopardizing production security, given the global steel overcapacity and high US tariffs on Chinese steel.
