
The family of Mr. Huynh Huu Tho (Binh Hoa Long hamlet, Dong Son commune) currently has more than 2 acres of corn ready for harvest, but they haven't sold it yet because the price is too low. Mr. Tho said that the price of corn dropped sharply before Tet (Lunar New Year) and has not recovered yet. Currently, traders are only buying it for about 1,800 - 2,000 VND/ear, much lower than the price that could bring profit to farmers. "I invested nearly 10 million VND in more than 2 acres of corn. At this selling price, it's like losing my capital. To make a profit, the price needs to be 4,000 VND/ear or higher," Mr. Tho shared.
Similar to Mr. Tho, Mr. Nguyen Van Cuong (from the same Binh Hoa Long hamlet) has just finished harvesting 1.1 hectares of corn and sold it at 2,000 VND per ear. After deducting expenses, his family lost about 30 million VND this season. Mr. Cuong said this is the lowest price in many years, while the cost of fertilizers and pesticides has increased sharply.
At the same time, the price of chili peppers (type agricultural products (which had peaked a few months ago) has also plummeted rapidly. Currently, chili peppers are being bought by traders at 12,000 – 17,000 VND/kg, a decrease of about 80,000 – 90,000 VND/kg compared to more than 3 months ago.
Ms. Nguyen Ngoc Ha (Long Binh commune), who is harvesting nearly 1 hectare of chili peppers, said that with the current price of around 14,000 VND/kg, the profit is very low. To reduce costs, her family has to harvest the peppers themselves instead of hiring laborers as before.
Not just vegetables, many types fruit The main local produce has also unexpectedly seen a sharp drop in price. Thai jackfruit is currently being purchased by wholesalers at around 6,000 – 9,000 VND/kg, while red-fleshed jackfruit is around 13,000 VND/kg, a decrease of nearly 20,000 VND/kg in just about a week.
Even durian, dubbed the king of fruits, which had maintained high prices for a long time, is starting to cool down. The price of Grade A Monthong durian is currently around 140,000 – 150,000 VND/kg, while Grade A Ri 6 durian is around 80,000 – 85,000 VND/kg, a decrease of about 20,000 VND/kg compared to previous days.
According to the Provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment In Dong Thap province, during the first quarter of 2026, some types of fruits and agricultural products still showed year-on-year increases. However, the prices of rice, vegetables, and many key fruit crops were lower than the previous year. The local agricultural sector is continuing to monitor the production situation, while promoting the establishment of planting area codes, developing concentrated production areas, and strengthening consumption linkages to stabilize the output of agricultural products in the coming period.
