Adhering closely to the resolutions and plans of the Central Government and the province, localities are focusing investment on disaster prevention and control infrastructure in residential areas, prioritizing key areas, linking it with urban beautification and upgrading, and improving the quality of life for residents. This includes focusing on improving drainage systems, upgrading roads, constructing embankments to prevent landslides, and addressing potential safety hazards at submerged crossings.
Quang Ha commune is a coastal area with many low-lying regions. Therefore, the local authorities have focused on improving infrastructure related to flood control in residential areas frequently affected by flooding. Currently, the commune is accelerating the completion of the project "Upgrading, renovating, and flood control infrastructure in Hai Tan residential area" with a total investment of over 14.5 billion VND, along with the project "Upgrading and renovating drainage culverts and roads in Tran Hung Dao residential area" with a total investment of nearly 4.9 billion VND, striving to complete and put them into use before June 30th.
Mr. Nguyen Dinh Tuan, Deputy Director of the Service Supply Center of Quang Ha commune, said: The investor and contractors have focused maximum manpower and equipment to accelerate the progress of the two infrastructure reinforcement projects in Hai Tan and Tran Hung Dao residential areas. To date, the main items have been basically completed, contributing to improving living conditions and enhancing safety for people during the rainy season. In the coming time, the commune will continue to review and implement essential projects in the central area and surrounding areas to increase drainage capacity and limit flooding; prepare to invest in a pedestrian bridge to replace the No. 1 culvert to connect traffic on both sides of the river, ensuring safe travel, gradually completing synchronized infrastructure, creating momentum for development and narrowing the regional disparity.

In Vang Danh ward, the effectiveness of investment in flood control infrastructure has been clearly demonstrated. The 1km-long residential drainage ditch in Vang Danh 6 area, completed in January 2026, has definitively resolved the long-standing flooding problem. Ms. Le Thi Kim Lien, Party Secretary and Head of Vang Danh 6 area, shared: "Previously, whenever there was heavy rain, the water would rise and flood people's houses, seriously affecting their lives and property. Since the project came into operation, rainwater is collected and drained promptly, eliminating localized flooding, and the residential area's environment has become more airy and clean. The people feel very secure."
In 2026, Vang Danh ward is implementing 17 projects with a total capital of over 101 billion VND, many of which have a direct impact on disaster prevention and control, such as drainage ditches, residential roads, and embankment construction to prevent landslides. The projects are being expedited, aiming for completion in August and September of this year, contributing to improving disaster response capacity at the grassroots level.
Following the province's directives, communes are gradually moving towards a "comprehensive commune" model, proactively and autonomously managing the entire process from direction and prevention to response, rescue, and relief when natural disasters occur. Local authorities are strengthening inspections and reviews of high-risk areas such as embankment bases, waste dumps, and mining areas to assess risks and take timely remedial measures. At the same time, the Department of Construction is closely coordinating with local authorities to inspect and propose solutions to address areas at risk of landslides, tightening management of construction order, especially in residential areas at the foot of slopes, near waste dumps, and along rivers and streams, to ensure long-term safety for the people.
In the context of increasingly unpredictable natural disasters, proactively "preventing at the source" by upgrading residential infrastructure not only minimizes damage but also affirms the determination to protect the safety of the people. With the motto "respond at the highest level, prepared for the worst-case scenario," each completed project is a step towards strengthening people's trust in the decisive and effective leadership of the government.
