Recently, with the increasing number of running events, scammers have seized this opportunity to profit illegally. By creating fake social media pages with seemingly genuine information about races, and claiming to be organized by reputable organizations, this tactic has ensnared many victims.

Numerous advertisements promoting the running event have flooded social media. All are linked to the Petrolimex brand and feature enticing offers such as: participation is completely free, and valuable prizes are guaranteed. "Participation is completely free, with a first prize of 100 million VND, a second prize of 50 million VND, and a third prize of 20 million VND. Let's run together with Petrolimex for a greener Vietnam."
However, a representative from Petrolimex asserted that this was merely a scam. All these Facebook pages, despite having blue verification badges, do not belong to Petrolimex. Using the tactic of collecting information and images from previous running events organized by Petrolimex, the perpetrators inserted false and fabricated information into these pages and posted them on social media to entice people to participate, with the aim of defrauding and misappropriating assets.

Posing as someone interested in participating in a race, the reporter was invited by the scammer to join a group of six members. These were actually "brokers" disguised as race participants. In this group, the ringleader requested that each person wanting to participate transfer 359,000 VND to promote a sponsoring brand. Immediately, the "brokers" in the group sent screenshots of the transferred money and repeatedly urged the reporter to pay.
As soon as they realize the "fish" isn't biting the bait, the scammers immediately remove the victim from the group.
Besides luring people with fictitious running events, many social media pages are also advertising job openings for gas station attendants, cashiers, office workers, accountants, etc., all associated with the Petrolimex brand. However, a representative from Petrolimex affirmed that this information is completely fake and that many victims have fallen prey to these scams.
