Gold price forecast
Global gold prices fell amid a rise in the US dollar index. As of 5 PM on June 18th, the US Dollar Index, which measures the fluctuations of the greenback against six major currencies, stood at 105.115 points (up 0.15%).
According to analyst Jim Wyckoff of Kitco Metals, a website specializing in the gold market, the precious metals market is searching for direction due to a lack of new fundamental information.
This analyst suggests that gold prices could fluctuate between $2,300 and $2,400 per ounce until the market receives a significant catalyst, possibly extending into July.
Meanwhile, commodity strategist Ole Hansen of Saxo Bank believes that current demand for precious metals remains strong enough to prevent prices from plummeting, and may even push them higher.
Currently, yields on 10-year US Treasury bonds have risen after falling last week. This makes gold less attractive to investors.
Traders are closely watching upcoming comments from New York Fed President John Williams, Philadelphia Fed President Patrick Harker, and Fed Governor Lisa Cook.
According to CME's FedWatch tool, with the latest report showing the consumer price index in May unchanged for almost two years, traders are predicting a 67% chance that the US will cut interest rates in September.
