2026 is predicted to be a busy year for the Vietnamese women's volleyball team with a series of international tournaments such as the AVC Cup (in the Philippines), SEA V.League (round 1 in Thailand, round 2 in Vietnam), the Asian Women's Volleyball Championship (in China), ASIAD 20 (in Japan)...
Three years ago, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team performed impressively in international tournaments, especially at the Asian Women's Volleyball Championship and the Asian Games, rising to 4th place in Asia, behind only Japan, China, and Thailand, and surpassing South Korea for the first time.
At the 2026 Asian Games, the Vietnam Volleyball Federation aims to maintain its 4th place ranking. This is not an easy task, but it is achievable given the team's significant progress, surpassing South Korea and Kazakhstan and gradually narrowing the gap with Thailand – the continent's top team, which has consistently held the 3rd position for many years.
At the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team also came very close to a historic victory, losing only 2-3 in the final; notably, in set 5, the team even led and had two opportunities to finish the match with victory.
To achieve their goals in a packed competition year, the team needs to build a sufficiently deep squad, with a "second-string" team of reserve players whose skill level is not far behind the main squad. Tournaments like the National Championship are opportunities for young talents and promising players such as opposite hitter Nguyen Thi Tra My, setter Vi Thi Yen Nhi, outside hitter Pham Quynh Huong, etc., to prove their abilities, giving the coaching staff more personnel options for important tasks ahead.
