Poverty reduction in Dong Xuan

Over the years, the Party Committee and the government of Dong Xuan commune, Thanh Ba district, have consistently focused on helping people improve their awareness, access and apply scientific and technological advancements in production, and transform the structure of crops and livestock... gradually improving their lives and helping them escape poverty in a sustainable manner, actively building new rural areas, and contributing to the socio -economic development of the locality.

Thanks to preferential credit loans from the Social Policy Bank of Thanh Ba district, Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuong in Zone 8, Dong Xuan commune, invested in tea cultivation and livestock farming, rising out of poverty.

The commune Party Committee has developed a thematic resolution with specific targets and solutions tailored to the local situation to develop the economy in conjunction with sustainable poverty reduction. In particular, the commune focuses on coordinating vocational training and job placement for rural laborers, while effectively deploying capital resources and encouraging people to diversify crop structures and apply scientific and technological advancements to production.

The commune has coordinated with various units to open vocational training classes and provide technical training in crop cultivation and livestock farming for the people, creating new jobs for hundreds of laborers; assigned associations and organizations such as farmers' associations, women's associations, youth unions, and veterans' associations to promote technology transfer and introduce new high-yield and high-quality plant and animal varieties into production; received entrusted funds and provided preferential credit to the people for the right purposes and to the right people, bringing practical results; encouraged and created conditions for people, cooperatives, and associations to implement linkage models in investment, production, and consumption of agricultural products, and to develop OCOP products.

The emulation movements to develop production and business, promote solidarity and mutual assistance for wealth creation, and achieve sustainable poverty reduction have been actively embraced by organizations, members, and the people, creating local jobs for workers. As a result, more and more sustainable, high-income production models are emerging, being replicated and disseminated. Examples include: the buffalo and cattle fattening model of Mr. Khuất Văn Hưng; the free-range chicken farming model of Mr. Trương Thanh Sơn and Mr. Phạm Văn Hùng in Zone 8; the mechanical processing workshop of Mr. Nguyễn Văn Tuân in Zone 6; the integrated farm of Mr. Nguyễn Văn Chiến in Zone 5; the garment export model of Ms. Hà Thị Thu in Zone 6... or the Đồng Xuân Green Tea Cooperative with 20 members maintaining effective production and business and receiving OCOP 3-star certification, processing 120 tons per year.

Comrade Nguyen Trung Tuan - Vice Chairman of the Commune People's Committee, said: "In the past period, implementing the National Target Program for Sustainable Poverty Reduction, the commune has mobilized maximum social resources, prioritizing capital support and investment in production, paying attention to assisting poor, near-poor, and newly-escaped-from-poverty households in applying scientific and technical advancements to production, thereby creating motivation to rise out of poverty sustainably. At the same time, we continue to effectively implement the poverty reduction sub-project on information, focusing on training to improve the capacity of grassroots communication staff; implementing poverty reduction emulation movements, encouraging the will to overcome difficulties and rise out of poverty and legitimately enrich the people."

Thanks to the synchronized implementation of various solutions in poverty reduction, the appearance of Dong Xuan commune, a new rural area, has changed significantly; the lives of the people have improved, the number of well-off households is increasing; and many successful economic development models have emerged, making an important contribution to the socio-economic development of the locality. According to the preliminary review results in 2024, Dong Xuan commune still has 38 poor households, accounting for 2.66% of the total number of households in the commune, a decrease of 0.9% compared to 2023; and 22 near-poor households, accounting for 1.54%.
