The Hung Kings Commemoration Day - Hung Temple Festival and the Ancestral Land Culture and Tourism Week in the year of the Horse 2026 is an opportunity for every Vietnamese person to return to their national roots, where the sacred spirit of the mountains and rivers converges. This is not only an occasion to honor the cultural values ​​of the era when the Hung Kings founded the nation, but also a bridge connecting the past with the present, affirming the principle of "drinking water, remembering the source," strengthening national unity, and arousing patriotism and the aspiration to preserve the cultural heritage of our ancestors for generations to come.

In anticipation of the national holiday, the Provincial People's Committee issued Plan No. 54/KH-UBND, dated February 25, 2026, on organizing the Hung Kings Commemoration Day - Hung Temple Festival and the Hung Kings Land Culture and Tourism Week in the year of the Horse 2026. With a provincial scale and a series of rich activities lasting from April 17 to April 26, 2026 (from the 1st to the 10th day of the 3rd lunar month), the event promises to be a space for the convergence of cultural essence, a meaningful journey back to the roots for every Vietnamese citizen, and a testament to the strong vitality of the cultural heritage values ​​of the Hung Kings era in the contemporary context.

According to the plan, the event is divided into two main parts: the ceremonial part and the festive part. The ceremonial part is required to be solemn, dignified, respectful, and highly communal. It begins with the incense offering ceremony by communes, wards, and towns in the province (taking place from April 7th to April 21st). Other important ceremonies include the Commemoration Ceremony for National Ancestor Lac Long Quan and the incense offering in remembrance of Ancestress Au Co on April 22nd; and the procession of palanquins by communes and wards surrounding Hung Temple on April 23rd. The highlight is the Hung King Commemoration Ceremony and the flower offering at the relief sculpture "President Ho Chi Minh speaking with officers and soldiers of the Vanguard Army" which will take place on the 10th day of the 3rd lunar month (April 26th, 2026).

Alongside the ceremonial part, the festive part (Hung Temple Festival and Ancestral Land Culture and Tourism Week) features a series of unique events, creating a vibrant cultural atmosphere. The highlight begins with an impressive opening art program. This is followed by a diverse range of activities such as: a cultural camp, a folk art festival, a street folk culture festival, and exhibitions showcasing thematic documents on the culture of the Hung King era and the Hung King worshiping heritage. In particular, the first Phu Tho Province Rice Cake Wrapping and Cooking Competition will be organized on a cluster-by-cluster scale, attracting significant visitors. Those who appreciate traditional arts can enjoy water puppetry, land puppetry, performances of traditional musical instruments, or performances of ancient Xoan singing. Sports activities such as the Hung King Cup Volleyball Tournament, the Boat Racing Competition on Van Lang Park Lake, and the "Back to the Roots" Marathon, organized through a socialized model, will also contribute to the lively atmosphere of the festival.

Sharing about the preparations for the festival, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong Thuy, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, affirmed: The province has made thorough preparations to ensure that activities take place safely, civilly, and economically, while preserving the full traditional values. As the standing agency, the department has actively advised the Provincial People's Committee to establish an Organizing Committee chaired by the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, and assigned specific tasks to each member. The department also coordinated with relevant units to develop detailed content for each activity in accordance with regulations. Decoration and publicity work along the main roads leading to the Hung Temple Historical Site has also been implemented synchronously, creating a beautifully decorated urban landscape to welcome visitors.

In particular, the cultural sector's advisory work focuses on innovating and improving the quality of tourism services to attract visitors. Large-scale events such as the Hung Vuong Fair, the Ancestral Land Book Fair, and the tourism stimulus program and the "Sacred Hung Temple - The Origin" night tour are efforts to create competitiveness and unique appeal for Phu Tho tourism. In addition, an inter-agency inspection team has been established to strictly control cultural activities and service businesses, ensuring security, order, and food safety throughout the festival. Media management is also emphasized through the plan to hold a press conference (scheduled for March 20, 2026) and operate a Press Center from April 14 to April 26 to support reporters in their work most effectively.

With the close guidance of the Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial People's Committee, and the proactive and creative advisory work of departments, agencies, and localities, the Hung Kings Commemoration Day - Hung Temple Festival and the Ancestral Land Culture and Tourism Week in the year of the Horse 2026 will be a journey of convergence of identity, where the essence of traditional culture meets the spirit of the times, where national pride is strongly awakened, contributing to building and promoting the image of the Ancestral Land and Vietnam as a friendly and culturally rich country to international friends.
