According to the Vietnam Civil Aviation Authority, in the first half of August, average airfares decreased significantly as Vietnamese airlines offered flights at 35% to 65% of their maximum capacity.

According to a survey conducted on July 31st, the highest price for a one-way ticket on the "golden route" Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City offered by Vietnam Airlines was 2.2 million VND (excluding taxes and fees), equivalent to 65% of the ceiling price of 3.4 million VND (for flights on Friday, August 2nd).

On other days, ticket prices are significantly lower, with Vietravel Airlines offering the lowest fares at nearly 750,000 VND/one-way, equivalent to 26% of the maximum price (from August 5th to August 15th).

On the Hanoi - Da Nang route, the highest fare on August 2nd for Vietnam Airlines and Vietjet Air was approximately 1.6 million VND per one-way trip, equivalent to 56% of the maximum fare of 2.89 million VND.

For departures further in the day, airfares from airlines are significantly reduced, sometimes reaching only about 25% of the maximum price. For example, Vietravel Airline offers a series of tickets starting from just 300,000 VND per one-way trip.

On the Hanoi - Cam Ranh (Nha Trang) route, the highest ticket price on the weekend of August 3rd was nearly 2.5 million VND/one-way, for the 9am-5pm time slot (equivalent to 72% of the maximum price of 3.4 million VND). For this route, Vietjet Air sold tickets at the lowest average price in many days, only 25% of the maximum price.

Hanoi - Da Lat flight fares remained stable in August. On August 2nd, Vietnam Airlines sold daytime tickets for 2.9 million VND, equivalent to 80% of the maximum price; on other days, prices ranged from 30% to 40% of the maximum price. Vietjet Air had fares from 800,000 to 1.1 million VND, or 24%-30%; Bamboo Airways' prices ranged from 25% to 50% of the maximum price.

The Hanoi - Phu Quoc route, the longest domestic route, currently has a price ceiling of 4 million VND for transportation services. However, Vietnam Airlines is selling tickets for 3.05 million VND for departures on the morning of August 8th (approximately 76% of the ceiling price).

During this period, both Vietnam Airlines and Vietjet listed ticket prices at 30-50% of the ceiling price. Notably, flights between 9 am and 12 pm usually had higher prices due to passenger demand for daytime flights for convenience in booking accommodations and planning travel.

According to the Vietnam Civil Aviation Authority, some localities such as Ho Chi Minh City and travel companies have implemented programs to support accommodation for passengers who choose to fly at night. This helps passengers reduce the cost of their trip and alleviates the pressure on airlines during daytime hours.

Aviation authorities advise passengers to plan their travel and book tickets early through official sales channels to secure the best prices. Additionally, passengers should consider their schedules, time, and personal circumstances to choose early morning or late-night travel times to reduce costs.

In the first half of 2024, airfares on some domestic routes increased significantly compared to the same period in 2023. A survey by the Civil Aviation Authority in April showed that for the Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City route, the average one-way fare for Vietnam Airlines was approximately 2.64 million VND (a 14% increase). Bamboo Airways' fares were 2 million VND (an 11% increase), Vietjet's were around 1.74 million VND (a 25% increase), and Vietravel Airlines' were around 1.5 million VND (a 15% increase).

The biggest reason for the sharp increase in airfares is the shortage of aircraft for domestic airlines, which are only operating 165-170 aircraft in actual service, a decrease of 40-45 aircraft compared to the average for the whole of last year. On the other hand, the domestic market is almost entirely dependent on the supply capacity of Vietnam Airlines and Vietjet, while Bamboo Airways' fleet has been significantly reduced. Airlines are also finding it difficult to increase their aircraft resources while the global market is also experiencing shortages and leasing costs are being pushed up.
