The hardships students face getting to school during the flood season.

Rising floodwaters have submerged many rural roads in the low-lying Đồng Tháp Mười region of Tây Ninh province, paralyzing road traffic and making it difficult for residents and students to travel to school.

Many rural roads are flooded, affecting people's travel.

In Vinh Chau commune, one of the lowest-lying areas in the Dong Thap Muoi region of the province, people are struggling to cope with the rain and floods these days, as large areas of rice fields are threatened by flooding, and hundreds of houses are submerged, causing difficulties for people's lives.

Mr. Duong Vu Luan (Vinh Chau commune, Tay Ninh province) said: "The road in front of my house is deeply flooded, making it difficult for dozens of households in the area to travel. Now, every day I have to paddle a boat across the river to go to work and paddle a boat back home in the evening, which is very inconvenient."

Every day, Mr. Duong Vu Luan has to use a boat to cross the canal to get to work.

Rising floodwaters have submerged many roads in Vinh Chau commune, most notably Provincial Road 837B and the roads along the west and east banks of the Ngang Canal, spanning several kilometers and making it difficult for students to get to school. To ensure their children's safety during these days, many parents have had to leave their jobs and rush to pick up and drop off their children.

Students go to school during the flood season.

According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy (Vinh Buu hamlet, Vinh Chau commune), the road to school is so deeply flooded that it's impossible to travel by motorbike. Every day, she has to use a motorboat to take her children to and from school. Although it's difficult and tiring, she tries her best for their safety.

Many parents have had to leave work to take their children to school to ensure their safety.

Students wear life jackets when participating in water transportation.

Mr. Nguyen Anh Tuan, Deputy Principal of Vinh Dai Primary School in Vinh Chau commune, said: “This year's floodwaters are higher than in previous years. The school has about 30 students who are driven to and from school daily by their families. The school has proactively informed parents about the importance of wearing life jackets when dropping off and picking up their children; educated students about traffic conditions during the flood season to ensure their safety on their way to school; and provided life jackets for the students.”

According to statistics from Vinh Chau commune, approximately 200 students in the area are currently transported to and from school by their parents. However, in reality, some students have to go to school alone due to family circumstances, even when the roads are flooded. Furthermore, some parents disregard the importance of ensuring their children's safety, such as not having them wear life jackets when being transported, leading to safety risks.
