Springtime for a Marine

While people across the country are joyfully welcoming the New Year, amidst the stormy seas, more than 1,200 officers and soldiers of the Coast Guard are still working day and night, holding their weapons firmly, steadfast in their resolve, silently protecting the seas so that the people can enjoy a peaceful and happy Lunar New Year.

Through the Visat system, Captain Le Viet Anh, commander of the CSB 8002 vessel, confidently reported: 100% of the officers and soldiers on board are highly determined and ready to overcome difficulties and rough seas to successfully complete their assigned tasks. To create a warm atmosphere during the Tet holiday, the officers and soldiers on board have meticulously prepared with a full supply of spring food such as banh chung (traditional rice cakes), apricot and peach blossoms, a five-fruit platter, and sausages, and a detailed New Year's Eve celebration program has been developed.

Sergeant Le Van Quoc, a gunner on Coast Guard vessel CSB 8002, slowly said: "This is the first time celebrating Tet away from home, but we always receive the care, encouragement, and support from commanders at all levels. Therefore, the crew on the ship always feel secure in their work and feel honored to contribute our small part to maintaining peace for the people to celebrate Tet." It is known that Sergeant Quoc's mother is currently being treated for a serious illness, but with high determination, he still volunteered to go on duty.

Captain Nguyen Dinh Hieu, commander of the CSB 7011 vessel, stated: The CSB 7011 is currently on patrol and control duty in the DK1 area. All crew members are in good health and maintain a strict combat readiness duty. Currently, in addition to those performing their duties as prescribed, the CSB 7011 is organizing for the crew to watch programs on Vietnam Television, gathering in the ship's Club room to listen to New Year greetings from superiors at all levels.

Homesickness and pride

"These days, to be honest, everyone misses home and loved ones, especially those with young children or elderly parents back home. But we always encourage each other to remember that this is a soldier's duty, a responsibility to the Fatherland. The trust and support from our families and the people are a great source of encouragement, allowing us to work with peace of mind and stand firm at the forefront," confided Lieutenant Nguyen Thanh Nam, a professional military officer and maritime officer on board the CSB 4039 vessel.

Meanwhile, young soldier Lieutenant Le Huu Hung, Head of the Electrical and Mechanical Department of the Coast Guard ship CSB 4039, choked back tears as he sent a message back home: "My wife, I miss you and our child so much. Please take care of yourselves at home; I am currently with my comrades carrying out the mission to maintain peace for the Fatherland. When the mission is completed, I will come home to you both. I miss you both very much!"

In particular, behind the Coast Guard soldiers who are bravely guarding the seas day and night are hardworking mothers, loyal and devoted wives, and obedient children on land.

At the sacred moment of transition from the old year to the new, at the Coast Guard command center, there was the presence of the mother of Senior Lieutenant Nguyen Tien Thanh, a professional military officer and Radar operator on Coast Guard vessel 7011 (Thanh lost his father at a young age, and his mother single-handedly raised three brothers to adulthood).

This year, Thanh is on duty at sea and therefore unable to return home to celebrate Tet (Lunar New Year) with his family. Through the Visat system, Thanh's mother sent New Year's greetings to her son's comrades and wished Thanh good health and continued success in his duties. "Everything at home is fine, son, you can focus on your work. I'm so proud of you," Thanh's mother said emotionally.

The Commander of the Coast Guard Command presented gifts and extended New Year greetings to the family of Senior Lieutenant Nguyen Tien Thanh, a professional military officer.

For example, Senior Lieutenant Bui The Dau, a professional military officer and communications officer on the CSB 4037 ship, whose father passed away at the end of January, still managed to arrange his family affairs and volunteer to return to his unit to participate in the Tet holiday duty at sea.

In the vast ocean, amidst the harsh waves, the Coast Guard soldiers welcome the spring with a sense of responsibility, pride, and love for their country. It is this silent sacrifice that contributes to ensuring complete and peaceful springs for the mainland.
