Introducing Ho Chi Minh City Medical Tourism Products

On July 17, 2020, the Department of Tourism and the Department of Health jointly organized the conference "Introducing Ho Chi Minh City's Medical Tourism Products," aiming to promote medical tourism products and introduce treatment and healthcare models for tourists, combining tourism with the strengths of Ho Chi Minh City's healthcare sector.

This conference introduces for the first time tour programs combining tourism and dentistry, and tourism and traditional medicine, offered by travel businesses in Ho Chi Minh City. The official website providing information related to medical facilities and tourism-medical services of the Ho Chi Minh City medical tourism system is officially operating and serving tourists and the public at: www.dulichytetphcm.com.

The medical tourism website is the second specialized website, after the tourism promotion website at www.kichcaudulichtphcm.vn, launched and operated by the Ho Chi Minh City tourism industry to promote the city's unique tourism products to visitors. The website www.dulichytetphcm.com is also the first website in Vietnam dedicated to medical tourism.

In 2019, the number of international tourists visiting Ho Chi Minh City was estimated at 8.619 million, an increase of 13.48% compared to 2018.

According to statistics, the number of foreign visitors to Vietnam for medical treatment combined with tourism has been steadily increasing over the years, generating approximately US$2 billion in revenue. In 2018 alone, around 300,000 foreigners visited for outpatient consultations and 57,000 received inpatient treatment in Vietnam. Ho Chi Minh City accounted for about 40% of these visits. These figures demonstrate the enormous potential for the future development of medical tourism.

According to forecasts by the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), among the six tourism trends developing globally in the future, medical tourism is included, alongside responsible tourism, ecotourism, community tourism, smart tourism, and creative tourism.

In the coming period, many products and models combining tourism and healthcare will continue to be linked, developed, and formed to serve the healthcare needs of the people and attract domestic and international tourists to Ho Chi Minh City, contributing to the service and development of the tourism industry.
