Introducing Vietnamese - English dictionary of science, technology and innovation

To celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Liberation of the Capital (October 10, 1954 - October 10, 2024), the 65th anniversary of the establishment of the Ministry of Science and Technology (1959 - 2024), towards the Science Day for World Peace and Development (November 10), on the afternoon of October 10, the Science and Technology Publishing House (Ministry of Science and Technology) held a seminar to introduce the "Vietnamese - English - Chinese Dictionary of Science, Technology and Innovation".

The seminar aims to share and discuss extensively the terminology of innovation, science and technology as well as the importance of the dictionary in supporting research and application of technology in Vietnam.

At the seminar, Director of the Science and Technology Publishing House Bui Minh Cuong said that the Vietnamese - English - Chinese dictionary of science, technology and innovation, volume 1, has been supplemented with many words about science, technology and innovation, contributing to improving knowledge and developing science and technology in Vietnam. The author of the dictionary is Mr. Ly Kien Nam, born in 1937, who has a lot of experience and contributions to the Science and Technology sector in Vietnam. "After 32 years in the publishing industry, this is the first time I have worked with an elderly author who is clear-headed and works at an unexpectedly fast speed," Mr. Bui Minh Cuong commented on author Ly Kien Nam.

  The manuscript of the dictionary was sent to the Science and Technology Publishing House in 2023. After a year, with the efforts of the author, editors, designers, and publishers, the book of more than 500 large pages comparing 3 languages: English - Vietnamese - Chinese was born, convenient for looking up and converting between 3 languages. The book was compiled with great effort over 4 years, with the dedication of the author and his son, engineer Ly Chi Cuong, not only as a reference document but also as a scientific and cultural bridge between 3 languages. The Science and Technology Publishing House hopes to continue to launch the Vietnamese - English - Chinese Dictionary of Science, Technology and Innovation, Volume 2 in the near future to serve the research and learning needs to improve the qualifications of readers nationwide.

  At the Seminar, author Ly Kien Nam shared that today, innovation has gone deep and is closely linked to thinking and life. Scientific and technological progress, economic and social progress have created great momentum for the country's development. Therefore, there is a need for a science and technology dictionary for the need for innovation and development, as a bridge of knowledge to access new, modern science and technology, and creative techniques. The dictionary includes more than 8,000 terms, divided into 8 main fields: Mechanics, metallurgy, architecture and construction; technology and production, innovation, production equipment, physics and chemistry.

  Born in the context of Vietnam implementing national strategies on science and technology, the Vietnamese - English - Chinese dictionary of science, technology and innovation not only meets the needs of reference and research but is also an important tool to promote international cooperation, technology transfer and innovation. In particular, the dictionary was launched and introduced during the Science and Technology Book Week in October 2024 with the desire to spread the culture of reading, promote the search for knowledge, especially science and technology books, towards building a learning and research society, creating beauty in social life./.
