Earlier this year, the release of Hoa Minzy's music video "Bac Bling" created a unique phenomenon. The singer not only incorporated Bac Ninh 's Quan Ho folk music – an intangible cultural heritage of humanity – into a modern arrangement but also collaborated with renowned names like artist Xuan Hinh, producer Masew, and Tuan Cry to deliver a product that is both deeply rooted in national identity and full of modern spirit. Beyond its strong impact on online platforms with tens of millions of views on YouTube, "Bac Bling" was also highly praised by leaders and industry professionals.

On March 24th, at the Government Headquarters, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh chaired a dialogue with outstanding Vietnamese youth to commemorate the 94th anniversary of the founding of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union (March 26, 1931 - March 26, 2025). The presence of many young artists such as Hoa Minzy, Duc Phuc, Erik, etc., at this event not only enlivened the atmosphere but also affirmed the role of art in connecting tradition with modernity.

At the dialogue, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh expressed his delight that the younger generation is not only preserving but also reviving national culture through creative products that reach international standards. The Prime Minister particularly praised Hoa Minzy's music video "Bac Bling," as it clearly demonstrates the interplay between tradition and modernity, embodying both Vietnamese identity and contemporary relevance. The Prime Minister hoped that this product would soon reach 100 million views, affirming that national culture, when skillfully conveyed, will always have a strong vitality in the hearts of the public.

The official Government Information fanpage also praised the music video, stating: “Bac Bling (Bac Ninh) has contributed to internationalizing Vietnam's advanced culture, rich in national identity, to the world, while simultaneously nationalizing human civilization within our country.” This further affirms the profound influence of the product not only in the entertainment field but also in promoting Vietnamese culture internationally.

Beyond music, the trend of combining tradition with modernity is spreading strongly in many other fields such as fashion, film, digital art, and game shows. Modernized ao dai collections with strong folk influences, films exploring historical themes, and television programs that evoke national pride are increasingly receiving attention. For example, the culturally rich works of Hoang Thuy Linh, singer Kieu Anh, and the concert "Brother Overcoming a Thousand Obstacles" held on March 22, 2025 in Ho Chi Minh City attracted thousands of people wearing traditional Vietnamese clothing such as ao dai, ao nhat binh, and ao tu than. This event was not just a music night but also set a Guinness World Record for the largest number of people wearing traditional Vietnamese clothing.

Looking at the bigger picture, we are living in an era where traditional culture doesn't just exist in books or educational television programs, but permeates every aspect of life. TikTok videos on how to wear the traditional ao dai correctly, mashups of traditional instruments and EDM, and rap songs inspired by folk music… all demonstrate that traditional culture is not fading away, but is simply transforming to better suit the spirit of the times.

Many have suggested that traditional culture is gradually developing in a positive direction. Tran Van Minh (25 years old, living in Ha Tinh City) shared: “I think young people aren't turning their backs on traditional culture; they're just looking for new ways to approach it so it's more relevant and interesting to modern life. The approaches of young artists in various fields of literature and art are proving this while also creating a good trend for young people.”

It's not just young people; many older generations also clearly feel the transformation of traditional culture in modern life. As a retired teacher, Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong (65 years old, living in Ha Tinh City) commented: “I used to worry that young people today only care about new things and forget about traditional culture, but that's not the case. I'm very happy to see many young people wearing ao dai (traditional Vietnamese dress) while strolling the streets, learning about ancient culture, or simply learning how to wrap banh chung (traditional Vietnamese rice cakes). This shows that tradition still exists in the hearts of the younger generation; it's just that their way of expressing it has changed.”

National culture always retains its values; the important thing is how we preserve and promote those values. Preserving culture doesn't mean confining it to the past, but rather bringing it into the present and future with fresh approaches. What is happening shows that tradition and modernity are not opposed but can coexist to create a new cultural landscape that both preserves the national essence and is suitable for contemporary life. To achieve this, it requires not only the efforts of artists and those working in the cultural field but also the participation of everyone, especially the younger generation.

Today's youth are not only recipients of culture, but also creators, innovators, and disseminators of it in the most creative ways. Therefore, instead of worrying that traditional values will fade away, let's trust in young people – the "keepers of the flame" of the new era. They are continuing to write the cultural story with their passion, love, and youthful creativity.
