Farmers visit rice fields producing Hung Long 555 rice variety during the 2025 summer-autumn crop season.
in Vinh Thanh district, Can Tho city.

At the workshop, many farmers involved in the production of Hung Long 555 rice variety evaluated it as having high yield, good rice quality, good resistance to unfavorable production conditions, and low susceptibility to pests and diseases. The rice grains are soft and sticky, do not become chalky, and fetch a good price. During the summer-autumn crop season, despite harsh production conditions due to intense heat at the beginning of the season and thunderstorms at the end, Hung Long 555 rice still developed well, with strong, healthy plants that were less prone to lodging and showed good resistance to pests and diseases, especially blast.

With the positive results that the Hung Long 555 rice variety has brought, many farmers wish to expand the area planted with this rice variety in the coming seasons. IAS is committed to continuing to provide technical support, supply quality seeds, and connect with consuming businesses to ensure stable output for farmers.

According to Mr. Le Ngoc Anh, Director of IAS and author of the Hung Long 555 rice variety, this variety was researched and developed starting in 2013. In 2022, it was approved for circulation in the Central Highlands and South Central Coastal regions; in 2023, it was approved for circulation in the North Central and Northern mountainous regions; and in 2024, it was approved for circulation in the Southeast and Mekong Delta regions. The testing and production process of this rice variety across the country has shown that it adapts well to the production conditions of different seasons and is resistant to many pests and diseases. Rice cultivated in many fields in the Mekong Delta region achieved a yield of 12 tons/ha. The growing season is 90-105 days, depending on the crop. The milling yield is approximately 70%. Long-grained rice, with a light, fragrant aroma, rich flavor, and a soft yet chewy texture, is highly popular and in high demand in the market…
