The voluntary blood donation movement in Phu Yen district has recently attracted the participation of officials, employees, workers, and the general public, contributing to saving the lives of many patients.

Officers, soldiers of the armed forces and people of Phu Yen district registered to participate in blood donation at the "Red Journey" program.

The Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donation in Phu Yen District has promoted the role and significance of the movement; coordinated the organization of voluntary blood donation events, contributing to changing people's awareness and actions, such as: "Red Journey," "Phu Yen's Drop of Blood" with the message "Every drop of blood given saves a life," "Donate a drop of blood - give life"... At the same time, it has commended and rewarded collectives, individuals, and households with outstanding achievements in blood donation.

Each year, the Association coordinates one to two voluntary blood donation programs, attracting over 1,000 registered participants. Mr. Nguyen Van Huong, Chairman of the Phu Yen District Red Cross Society, said: From 2022 to the present, Phu Yen district has organized three voluntary blood donation drives, with over 3,500 volunteers participating and receiving over 2,000 units of blood. The amount of blood collected has contributed to saving the lives of many patients in need of blood.

Having participated in voluntary blood donation 10 times, Colonel Nguyen Ngoc Chien, Superintendent of Yen Ha Prison, Department C10, Ministry of Public Security , shared: "I regularly encourage my family, friends, and colleagues to participate in voluntary blood donation, hoping that the movement of donating blood to save lives will spread further. Every year, the unit also mobilizes 120 to 200 officers and soldiers to participate in voluntary blood donation."

Because providing emergency care to patients at medical facilities is sometimes difficult due to insufficient blood reserves, especially for rare blood types, in November 2022, Phu Yen District General Hospital collaborated with the District Youth Union to establish the "Drop of Love" Club, attracting 130 members from agencies, units, and armed forces, ready to register to donate blood for emergency patient care.

Dr. Do Van Quyet, Head of the General Surgery Department at Phu Yen District General Hospital and Chairman of the "Drop of Love" Blood Donation Club, reported: The club's management board has compiled a list of volunteers with full names, workplaces, addresses, and blood types, to be deployed in case of patient emergencies. Since its establishment, club members have donated blood to nearly 20 patients in emergency situations, with each case receiving 3 to 4 units of blood, contributing to saving lives and reducing the financial burden on patients.
