"Retaining" tourists in the last months of the year

Not only Thanh Hoa province , but many localities across the country are experiencing a slowdown in the tourism market from September to the end of the year. Recognizing these difficulties, Thanh Hoa's tourism sector has been proactively implementing various solutions to innovate products and enhance experiences and services in order to retain tourists.

Trekking tourism is expected to become a major attraction for visitors to the western part of Thanh Hoa province.

With efforts to "accelerate" in the final months of the year, tourism service businesses in the province have launched many attractive promotional programs, not only to attract tourists but also to extend their stay and increase service usage. Reportedly, several 3-4 star tourist accommodations in Thanh Hoa City, such as Muong Thanh and Central, have developed plans to stimulate demand and attract tourists in the last months of the year. Instead of reducing accommodation prices, they will increase the services and experiences offered to tourists. For MICE groups, hotels will provide sound and lighting services and offer special promotions when using conference rooms; for individual guests, complimentary breakfast or discounts on wellness services such as massage and sauna will be provided.

With the proactive efforts of tourism service businesses, Thanh Hoa's tourism industry has also prepared the conditions to launch a new tourism product – trekking (long-distance hiking and nature exploration). To date, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism has completed organizing training courses to improve the professional skills of trekking tour guides for the community and tour guides in Ba Thuoc, Quan Hoa, and Thuong Xuan districts. These courses focused on professional skills such as: walking, explaining trekking tours, mountain climbing with and without ropes, crossing terrain with water sources and using water-based support equipment, some basic survival principles and skills, organizing recreational activities in the forest, etc. Along with that, the courses covered the principles and requirements for organizing, managing, and guiding sports and adventure tourism programs, ensuring the effective and attractive launch of the product.

To retain tourists, in addition to a strong foundation in tourism products and services, Thanh Hoa province will also focus on promoting the application of technology, digital marketing, and tourism promotion. Accordingly, the Provincial People's Committee issued Plan No. 187/KH-UBND dated August 30, 2024, on the implementation of tasks to link tourism development with Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and the expanded North Central provinces in 2024. This aims to create favorable conditions for tourism businesses and travel companies in the province and related localities to exchange, cooperate, and expand market exploitation to develop tours and routes. Thanh Hoa province also aims to stimulate tourism demand in the last months of the year through promotional activities and continue to extensively promote the image of "Four Seasons' Beauty," affirming Thanh Hoa as a "safe, friendly, and attractive" destination for target tourism markets.

Representatives from several travel agencies stated that attracting tourists from within the province for domestic travel will be more limited from now until the end of the year. Therefore, most agencies have basically completed the development of themed domestic tourism programs, while also promoting specialized products for the elderly and cultural and spiritual tours in the final months of the year. In addition, businesses providing products and services at tourist areas and destinations throughout the province are also urgently updating their offerings to meet the needs of tourists.

In recent years, Thanh Hoa's tourism industry has been undergoing positive changes. In particular, the development, improvement, introduction, promotion, and organization of diverse tourism products and services, especially during the last months of the year, have received increasing attention. This contributes to enhancing the value of the destination, extending the length of stay, and increasing tourist spending through attractive experiential activities.
