"Keeping the flame" of unity alive in the community.

In the rural area of Cam Van today, a new way of life is permeating every home, along bright, green, clean, beautiful, and safe roads. These changes are largely due to the significant contributions of the team of respected community leaders (NCUT) who are always close to the people, understand the people, speak in a way that earns the people's trust, and act in a way that inspires the people to follow.

For nearly 16 years serving as the head of the village's cultural center in Thanh Tam village, Mr. Quach Quy Quynh has always been dedicated to the village's work through many concrete and practical actions, earning the trust, recognition, and high praise of the villagers. With over 90% of the population being ethnic Muong people, Mr. Quynh has always considered preserving and promoting traditional cultural identity as a crucial task and a condition for fostering closer ties and unity among the people.

Mr. Quynh shared: “For the Muong ethnic people, gongs are not just musical instruments, but also a ‘thread’ that connects them closely to their lives, culture, spirit, and beliefs from birth to adulthood. Therefore, the villagers are always conscious of preserving this cultural aspect through the establishment of a village gong club and maintaining performances during festivals, holidays, and important events of the homeland and the country. Besides that, I also actively promote and encourage people to preserve their language, writing system, traditional costumes, and folk songs; and at the same time, practice civilized customs in weddings and funerals.”

Not only is Mr. Quynh dedicated to preserving and promoting the national cultural identity, but he also keeps abreast of the situation and regularly mediates conflicts among the people, preventing many complicated incidents from occurring.

Located on the border with several communes of Ngoc Lac and Yen Dinh districts (formerly), he closely coordinated with the Cam Van commune police force to actively propagate and mobilize the people to raise their awareness of complying with the law, participating in maintaining security and order, and contributing to building a peaceful residential area.

Along with Mr. Quynh, Mr. Phung Thanh Khang, the village head and NCUT member in Phu Son village, is also a shining example, having made many contributions to the development of his homeland. Not only has he actively propagated and encouraged the people to change the structure of crops and livestock to increase income, but he is also a shining example in leading the way in mobilizing people to donate land, expand roads, and contribute to building infrastructure, helping to change the face of the rural area for the better. In particular, for over 40 years, Mr. Khang has been tirelessly dedicated to restoring and preserving the traditional culture of the Dao ethnic group. Undeterred by difficulties and hardships, he has devoted his time and money to traveling to villages inhabited by the Dao ethnic group in the former Cam Thuy district to collect stories, poems, sayings, and customs to translate into the common language. In addition, he also coordinated with the village committee to promote and encourage villagers to preserve traditional cultural values such as costumes, coming-of-age ceremonies, New Year's dances, and Thanh Minh festival. At the same time, he opened classes to teach the Dao Nôm script to people within and outside the commune.

"The Dao Nôm script classes are attracting more and more students from within and outside the commune. And what's encouraging is that more and more young people are also actively participating," Mr. Khang shared.

These are two of many exemplary grassroots Party members in Cam Van commune. After the merger, the commune has 21 villages, of which ethnic minorities account for 50.8%. Therefore, the role of grassroots Party members is extremely important in contributing positively to the local development. Not only do they propagate and encourage the people to comply with the Party's guidelines and the State's policies and laws, but the grassroots Party members in the commune are also exemplary leaders in all fields. They also make significant contributions to the development of socio -economic programs and plans in the locality; actively encourage the people to implement grassroots democracy regulations as well as village conventions and customs.

Mr. Pham Phi Khanh, Head of the Culture and Social Affairs Department of Cam Van Commune, said: "The locality currently has 13 outstanding community leaders. With their prestige and experience, the team of outstanding community leaders always plays a core, exemplary role and serves as a shining example for everyone to learn from and follow. To further enhance the role of outstanding community leaders, the commune will continue to create favorable conditions for them to participate in training courses; and promote their role in propaganda and mobilization work at the grassroots level. At the same time, the commune will also commend and reward outstanding individuals to create motivation and encourage outstanding community leaders to continue contributing and playing a role in strengthening the great unity in the residential area."
