| Employees of Hanesbrands (HBI) Vietnam Hue Company receive regular health check-ups right at the company. |

Amidst the scorching heat of nearly 40°C at the beginning of summer, in the production workshop of Hanesbrands (HBI) Vietnam in Hue, the topic of health is no longer just a slogan. “Sometimes we are careless, working continuously without paying attention to our bodies. Thanks to the union's concern and the organization of health check-ups and screenings, we feel more at ease,” shared Ms. Nguyen Thi Lien, a garment worker, after a routine health check-up.
Here, the trade union doesn't just stop at propaganda; it integrates healthcare activities directly into the working lives of employees. Programs such as health screenings, health counseling, and guidance on preventing occupational diseases are regularly maintained and linked to the actual working conditions of the workers.
During peak hot weather days, the company's medical department proactively prepares vitamin-rich drinks to help boost workers' immunity. For employees who unfortunately suffer from serious illnesses, this care is shown in a very special way. Every week, the company's labor union provides each employee with a meal allowance worth 50,000 VND, prepared to better suit individual needs. While not a large amount of support, these regular and timely meals help alleviate some of the difficulties faced by employees and provide them with better conditions for healthcare during this challenging period.
According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy Trang, representative of the HBI Hue Company's grassroots trade union, the important thing is not how many activities are organized, but "how to make employees feel that they are genuinely cared for, not just superficially."
At MSV Company Limited, employee recognition goes beyond mere words of encouragement; it's concretely demonstrated through practical actions. Based on advice and proposals from the Trade Union Executive Committee, a program to commend and honor outstanding employees is held regularly, once every quarter.
Employees with outstanding production performance are honored at their workplace quarterly. Rewards include an additional 300,000 VND added to their monthly basic salary, along with gifts, demonstrating timely and practical encouragement for their efforts, creativity, and responsibility in their work.
This atmosphere creates a ripple effect throughout every department and every job position. When efforts are recognized, employees are more motivated to stay committed and be more proactive in their work.
Having been honored as an outstanding worker, Duong Duy The Tai, from the machine maintenance department, shared that what keeps him committed is not only the job itself, but also the environment that encourages effort. "Besides my professional duties, I also take the time to research and propose small improvements to make the work more efficient. When I receive recognition, I have even more motivation to do better," Tai said.
Trade unions protect and guide workers.
Behind the acts of care and support, trade union activities still face many challenges. Mr. Le Quy Hoang, Chairman of the Trade Union of MSV Company Limited, shared that the biggest pressure currently is the concerns of employees about wages, income, and benefits, especially in the context of fluctuating prices. "There are times when employees don't speak up, but we must proactively understand and listen to them in order to speak up promptly and protect their rights," Mr. Hoang said.

Mr. Le Minh Nhan, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee and Chairman of the Hue City Federation of Labor, frankly stated: "Trade union activities are insufficient if they only focus on movements; they must address vital issues such as wages, insurance, and working conditions to maintain the trust of workers."
In reality, there are still businesses that are slow to fulfill their insurance obligations, directly affecting the rights of employees. This necessitates that trade unions both "care for" and "fight" in accordance with their role.
Over the past period, through the Legal Counseling Office of the Hue City Federation of Labor and the union's information channels, many union members and workers have been able to access and promptly share their difficulties in the work process. Many specific cases have been resolved right at the grassroots level.
Many seemingly protracted cases have been resolved. For example, supporting workers owed wages at a transportation company, or advising and assisting dozens of workers in resolving maternity benefits and related rights. “In more complex cases, the union has coordinated with the social insurance agency and local authorities to work directly with businesses, demanding a roadmap for definitively resolving wage and insurance arrears. In some cases, the union has directly participated in mediation, helping workers and businesses find common ground on wages and insurance, closing disputes with mutual agreement,” Mr. Le Minh Nhan shared.
From stories at the grassroots level, it's clear that trade union activities and the workers' movement are not just slogans, but are present in the lives of workers. This is evident when workers receive timely health check-ups and appropriate attention; when their legitimate rights are protected by organizations when necessary; and above all, when their voices and concerns are heard and acknowledged during their work and commitment to the enterprise.
In the new context, with a rapidly changing labor market and increasingly higher skill and productivity demands, public organizations need to delve deeper and get closer to workers – not only to care for them, but also to help them adapt and develop.
