Innovating methods for teaching history.

Having studied history with Mr. Luan in grades 10 and 11, Tran Thi Nhu Ngoc, a student in class 12A3, still remembers the lively atmosphere of those lessons. Ngoc shared that Mr. Luan's history lessons were always engaging because he often incorporated games, plays, and historical stories into his lectures. Mr. Luan frequently used information technology to project lectures, historical documentary videos , and historical films, making the lessons more lively and easy to understand. "Thanks to that, I retained the knowledge deeply and was more interested in studying history. Besides class time, I researched further through books, the internet, and historical images and videos on social media platforms," Nhu Ngoc confided.

After graduating with a degree in history education, Mr. Luan began working at Vo Van Kiet High School (now Vo Van Kiet Junior and Senior High School) in August 2017. He earned his master's degree in history in January 2025. For him, teaching history is not just about conveying facts and figures, but essentially about inspiring students to love history, fostering patriotism and national pride, and ultimately motivating them to study hard and become useful members of their families and society.

Mr. Dao Viet An, Principal of Vo Van Kiet Secondary and High School, commented that as a young teacher, Mr. Luan is always dedicated to his profession, applying new teaching methods to improve teaching effectiveness; focusing on creating an environment for students to experience and learn more effectively.

A new experience

In implementing the 2018 general education program, the weekly flag-raising ceremony at Vo Van Kiet Secondary and High School has been reformed in both content and form, linked to the monthly theme. Traditional cultural experience models initiated by teacher Ly Hoang Luan contribute to creating a school environment rich in identity, helping students "touch" history in a vivid and emotional way.

Most recently, a thematic study on some wedding rituals in Southern Vietnam has attracted the attention of students and has been replicated in many schools and organizations inside and outside the province. Teacher Ly Hoang Luan shared: “Wanting students to understand traditional customs and practices more deeply, I discussed with the leaders of the Provincial Museum and the Association of Clubs in Rach Gia Ward to organize a thematic study on some traditional wedding rituals of the people of Southern Vietnam in the past. The thematic study was modeled by the Provincial Museum, then organized at Vo Van Kiet Secondary and High School, and has been replicated by many schools inside and outside the province.”

The thematic study on some wedding rituals in Southern Vietnam, the "Minh Kinh Bac Hoc" (a scholarly playground), and historical drama performances are outstanding examples of Mr. Luan's creativity and dedication to the Youth Union activities and the education of traditional cultural values for students. Nguyen My Dinh, a student in class 11A7, shared: "The thematic study on traditional cultural values helps us broaden our knowledge and live in the atmosphere of history with interesting experiences, thereby inspiring us to learn about the beautiful cultural values of our nation."

Teacher Dao Viet An shared: “As the school's Youth Union Secretary, Mr. Luan is always dedicated and creative in his work with the Youth Union, organizing many activities, building many effective models, and creating a healthy playground for students to practice skills, perfect their character, and develop comprehensively.” Mr. Luan always places students at the center of all experiential activities, caring for and understanding their aspirations to organize practical activities that suit their needs. He often researches trends on social media to adapt content that matches the tastes of young people.

Teacher Luan shared: “After each thematic session and each extracurricular activity, seeing the students happy and more mature gives me more motivation to try harder. In the future, I will maintain the activities I have already implemented, continue to organize thematic sessions to learn about Southern Vietnamese folk music, and theatrical sessions to explore Tet customs…”
