Over the past 10 years, the Provincial Association for the Protection of People with Disabilities and Orphans has coordinated with Party committees at all levels, authorities, organizations and businesses to carry out many practical activities to care for people with disabilities, orphans and those in difficult circumstances.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoa, President of the Provincial Association for the Protection of People with Disabilities and Orphans, said: “Currently, there are 32,000 people with disabilities and orphans in the province, accounting for 1.71% of the province's population. The Provincial Association for the Protection of People with Disabilities and Orphans has deployed and implemented many programs, with many specific solutions such as: Implementing policies for people with disabilities, creating conditions for people with disabilities to access medical services; subsidizing equipment, orthopedic devices, rehabilitation; introducing jobs; having priority policies, supporting costs for people with disabilities when participating in traffic,education , training... In addition, organizing many competitions, cultural, artistic and sports movements for people with disabilities; establishing organizations for people with disabilities so that members can share and help each other in life...”.
The Provincial Association for the Support of the Disabled and Orphans donated bicycles to disadvantaged students in My Bang commune (Yen Son).
Through the sponsorship activities of the Association, many disabled people and orphans have had convenient living conditions, funds to increase production, raise livestock, and provide services to develop the family economy , helping them feel more secure, confident, and integrate into the community. Ms. Nguyen Thu Huong, village 8, Luong Vuong commune (Tuyen Quang city) is a disabled person who has overcome herself. She opened a grocery store to serve people in the commune with a good income. At the same time, she participated as the Chairman of the Tuyen Quang Aspiration Club. Mr. Do Van Duong, Dong Trai village, Dong Tho commune (Son Duong) developed his economy by raising ornamental birds, earning over 50 million VND/year. Ms. Hoang Thi Tuyen, Dong Quang village, Bang Coc commune (Ham Yen) overcame difficulties, overcame illness, and enthusiastically participated in social activities to help disabled people in the district and province integrate into life. Currently, she is a member of the Standing Committee of the Vietnam Association of Disabled Youth...
Over the past 10 years, the Association has had many ways to do so, such as writing open letters, directly reaching out to charity organizations and many other forms of advocacy, connecting the Association with businesses and philanthropists inside and outside the province; non-governmental organizations directly supporting over 25,000 people with disabilities, orphans and people in difficult circumstances with a total value of over 20 billion VND; building 17 new houses; giving over 7,000 gifts, giving 1,812 wheelchairs, 243 bicycles and many other items... The Association has implemented a program to support inclusive education for children with disabilities in Tuyen Quang city with a total program implementation cost of over 1 billion VND sponsored by the Green Cross Switzerland Organization...
The Chairman of the Provincial Association for the Support of People with Disabilities and Orphans and sponsors presented gifts to disadvantaged students of the Anh Binh Minh Center for Inclusive Education Development, Tuyen Quang city.
Effectiveness of Livelihood Support Project
Mr. Trieu Van Ky, Trung Loi village, Trung Hoa commune (Chiem Hoa) has a particularly difficult family situation. He is disabled and lives in a dilapidated and unsafe house. In that situation, in July 2024, he was supported by the District Business Association and the Provincial Association for the Protection of People with Disabilities and Orphans with 50 million VND, according to the Project on health care, living and livelihood support for people with disabilities and orphans of the commune. He was able to build a new solid house. After 3 months, the house was completed and put into use, with an area of over 70 m2, including a living room, bedroom, and a closed toilet, with a cost of nearly 200 million VND. He said: "I don't know what else to say, I just want to thank everyone for caring about my family. I will try to raise livestock to develop the economy, and improve my life so as not to disappoint everyone's help."
Giving gifts to people with disabilities affected by storm Yagi in Ly Nhan commune, Chiem Hoa district.
In 2025, Dong Tho commune (Son Duong) will implement a project to provide health care, support living and livelihood for people with disabilities and orphans, benefiting 532 people.
Ms. Au Thi Canh, Dong Khe village, Dong Tho commune said: “I am an elderly person and have been disabled since childhood, unable to walk, and almost all my daily activities depend on my family. Luckily, I am a member of the Association who enjoys the benefits under the project. Doctors came to my house to take care of my health, gave me free medicine, and gave me a wheelchair to help me move around more easily. I can only thank the Association and the sponsors for their help. I will try to live happily and healthily and integrate into the community.”
Comrade Au Van Ta, Chairman of Dong Tho Commune People's Committee shared: “The project was implemented in the commune with many activities to support people with disabilities and orphans such as: donating 16 wheelchairs to people with disabilities in difficult circumstances; granting capital to support economic development for 10 poor disabled households in especially difficult circumstances, each household 3 million VND; supporting the construction of 1 house; 10 toilets; giving 30 gifts; providing free medical examination and medicine to 240 disadvantaged people... with a budget of over 470 million VND. It can be said that the project was implemented in the commune very effectively, creating conditions for disadvantaged people with difficult circumstances in health, daily life, and livelihood to improve their quality of life; early integration into the community, contributing to the implementation of the local New Rural Development Program”.
Disabled people in Dong Tho commune (Son Duong) are examined and given free medicine under the project of health care, living and livelihood support for disabled people and orphans.
Over the past 10 years, the Provincial Association for the Protection of People with Disabilities and Orphans has coordinated with the People's Committees of districts and cities to review, select locations and implement 15 projects on health care, living and livelihood support for people with disabilities and orphans in 15 communes and wards for nearly 4,000 people with disabilities, orphans and people in difficult circumstances to benefit, with a total implementation cost in cash and in-kind equivalent to over 7.7 billion VND.
Joining hands to care for and help people with disabilities and orphans is a demonstration of the community's responsibility and sharing to help people with disabilities improve their material and spiritual lives. This is the motivation for people with disabilities to overcome their inferiority complex and difficulties, and to become role models full of determination and useful to society.
