Google announced that it is now rolling out a feature that allows users in the US to change their Gmail address without creating a new account or losing access to their data.
Users with access to this feature can go to their Google Account settings, select Personal Information > Email > Google Account Email Preferences. Click the “Change Google Account Email” button to begin the username renaming process.

Users can only change their username once every 12 months. Furthermore, they will not be able to delete the new email address during this period.
Google says users' old email addresses will be retained, and the old email address will become the alternative address for their account. Users can log in to Google services using both their old and new addresses.
Previously, Google had rolled out this change in some Hindi-speaking regions, as noted by 9to5Google, whose Hindi-language support page described the username renaming process.
Google's support page states that this feature is being rolled out gradually, and users may not be able to access it immediately.
What impact will this have on Vietnamese users?
First launched on April 1, 2004, Gmail created a sensation with its superior storage capacity, and in Vietnam, this service boomed during the years 2008-2010, a time when broadband internet began to reach every household.
During that period, the younger generation – especially those born in the 80s and 90s – often chose email addresses based on fleeting emotions or "legendary" nicknames associated with the blogging trend or Yahoo Messenger from the past.
It's not uncommon to come across names with strong personal touches like changtraicodon, congchuatuyet, or random thoughts encoded into complex characters.

However, when entering a professional work environment, these "childish" or quirky email addresses inadvertently become a barrier to work communication.
Thanks to its free policy and updated features, users can easily create a more polished new identity for their work and career.
For those who still want to retain old memories for data storage reasons but are worried about the "ridiculousness" of their old name, the opportunity to change their display name or utilize the alias feature is the perfect "lifesaver," helping them refresh their personal image without interrupting the flow of information that has been connected for decades.
