Google has just confirmed that they will begin developing this operating system internally, instead of publicly on the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) as before.

Google stated, "All Android development will take place within Google's internal branches." This is a significant shift from previous development methods, but it aligns with the company's recent moves.
Android users will likely not notice any difference from this change. App developers will also be minimally affected. However, the tech community may find it more difficult to access leaked information from AOSP as before. For example, information about the Pixel 10 was recently leaked through a piece of code in AOSP. Restricting information leaks can help avoid misunderstandings or inaccurate expectations from users.
Google is expected to make an official announcement later this week, and the changes will take effect starting next week.
In addition to changes to AOSP, Google is also making several notable improvements related to Android: Google Wallet on Android and Wear OS will soon support the Aliro smart key standard; new security measures on Google Play will be rolled out in 2025; PC games are coming to Android, while Google Play Games on Windows is nearing the end of its beta testing phase.
