Although Android has a history of nearly two decades and firmly holds the position of the world's largest mobile operating system by market share, there's a reality that always frustrates its users: New applications, especially blockbuster games or trendy, innovative apps, tend to choose the iPhone as their first destination. Developers often spend months to a year optimizing and rewriting the source code for the Android version, and many high-end applications have even become permanently exclusive to iOS.
The 'pain' of Android users is about to end.
The reason for this delay lies in the fragmentation of Android's hardware and the extremely complex, time-consuming, and labor-intensive process of rewriting the source code from Apple's system to Google's. However, at the recently concluded Google I/O 2026 event, the search giant presented a historic solution to redefine the mobile world with a tool called Migration Assistant.

Integrated directly into the dedicated Android Studio programming environment, Migration Assistant is a tool powered by next-generation artificial intelligence (AI) agents. Its task is to automate all the most complex steps in migrating applications from other platforms – including iOS, React Native, or web frameworks – to pure Android source code.
This tool's mechanism is incredibly intelligent. Developers simply upload their existing iPhone application project to the system. Immediately, the AI will automatically analyze and map features, automatically translate graphic resources (storyboards) or vector image formats (SVGs) to formats compatible with Android. Simultaneously, the AI will automatically deploy and optimize the source code according to Google's best technical standards through Jetpack Compose and recommended Jetpack libraries.
Google claims that Migration Assistant will transform massive workloads, which previously required weeks of manual code writing and bug fixing by programmers, into a smooth, automated process that takes only a few hours.
The introduction of this tool is considered a brilliant move by Google in bridging the gap between its app store and Apple's. Now, startups and small game studios no longer have to worry about which operating system to prioritize development for due to cost pressures. Bringing applications to Android will be cheaper, faster, and easier than ever before.
Of course, Google also notes that AI cannot completely replace humans. Source code translations from Migration Assistant will still require testing engineers to fine-tune minor display errors or hardware conflicts to ensure the application runs as smoothly as possible.
