Contributing to building our homeland

At nearly 60 years old, Mrs. Nguyen Thi Ngoc An (Nhon Thanh Trung commune, Tan An city, Long An province) finds happiness not only in her warm and happy family life but also in her dedication to the common good. Her contributions have helped build a successful advanced new rural commune.

A few months ago, the Ong Ba Dong concrete road was inaugurated and put into use. This road, approximately 400 meters long and 4 meters wide, cost over 900 million VND to construct, is one of the projects demonstrating the joint efforts and cooperation of the State and the people in the hamlet.

In 2024, when the Tan An City People's Committee approved the investment plan , Ms. An actively coordinated with the local authorities to mobilize people to donate land for road construction. Not only on Ong Ba Dong road, but in recent times, she has also mobilized women's association members to plant and care for flowers along Tran Cong Oanh road, the section passing through Nhon Tri 2 hamlet, spanning nearly 1km. This flower-lined road attracts passersby with the vibrant yellow color of the cassia flowers.

Furthermore, as the head of the Women's Union branch in Nhon Tri 2 hamlet, Ms. An has shown concern and care for the lives of its members through many practical actions, especially those in difficult circumstances. This is demonstrated through the revolving fund mutual aid group with 30 members. Each month, each member contributes 500,000 VND, after which the group draws lots, prioritizing members in need. Thanks to this timely support, for many years, Nhon Tri 2 hamlet has had no Women's Union members classified as poor households.

Ms. An shared: "I enjoy participating in this movement because it allows me to meet, exchange ideas with, and contribute a small part to helping those in difficult and unfortunate circumstances. I will continue my work until my health no longer permits it."

According to Nguyen To Trinh, Chairwoman of the Women's Union of Nhon Thanh Trung commune, Ms. An has been involved in the Women's Union work and women's movement for over 20 years, including many years as the Head of the Women's Union branch in Nhon Tri 2 hamlet. Despite working without a salary and receiving modest benefits, Ms. An has always wholeheartedly dedicated herself to her homeland with all her enthusiasm and devotion. Her most notable activities include caring for and supporting Women's Union members, especially those who are single or ill. Every year, she plans to help these individuals, alleviating some of their difficulties in life.
