Professor and People's Artist Ta Bon has passed away, leaving behind much sorrow for his friends, colleagues, and music lovers. Professor and People's Artist Ta Bon was born in 1942 in Thuong Tin, Ha Tay, into a family with a musical tradition.
Professor and People's Artist Ta Bon's father was musician Ta Phuoc, the first principal of the Vietnam School of Music (now the Hanoi Conservatory of Music). His brothers, Ta Tuan and Ta Don (violin), and Ta Huan (cello), all pursued careers in string instruments.
His wife is Meritorious Artist and People's Artist Kim Dung. His daughter, Ta Thuy Chi, is a dancer and currently works as a dance instructor at the Ho Chi Minh City Dance School. His son, Ta Ton, is also a violinist.
Professor and People's Artist Ta Bon began studying violin with his father at the age of 5. In 1954, at the age of 12, Professor and People's Artist Ta Bon went to study at the Intermediate Music School specializing in violin at the Beijing Conservatory of Music in China.
In 1958, he was selected to compete in the Enescu Violin Concours in Bucharest (Romania) and received an honorary Diplome. Also in 1958, after graduating from the Beijing Conservatory of Music, he was sent to study at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow.
In 1962, Professor and People's Artist Ta Bon received a silver medal for violin at the World Youth and Student Festival held in Helsinki (Finland).
In 1964, after graduating from university, he returned to teach at the Vietnam School of Music (which was then evacuated to Ha Bac province). From 1965 to 1968, Professor and People's Artist Ta Bon continued his postgraduate studies at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory.
In 1968, Professor and People's Artist Ta Bon returned to teach violin at the Vietnam School of Music, and also served as Deputy Director of the Hanoi Conservatory of Music.
In 1991, he joined the Ho Chi Minh City Symphony Orchestra and Opera House and taught at the Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music.
Since 1968, after returning to teach at the Hanoi Conservatory of Music alongside Professor Bich Ngoc and other lecturers, Professor and People's Artist Ta Bon has contributed to the development and teaching of many generations of violinists. Many of his students have become core members of the string section of the Vietnam National Symphony Orchestra.
The memorial service for Professor and People's Artist Ta Bon will begin at 10:00 AM on April 22nd at the National Funeral Home in the South (Go Vap District, Ho Chi Minh City).
The funeral procession will take place at 6:00 AM on April 23rd. Afterwards, the deceased will be buried at Phuc An Vien Cemetery (Thu Duc City, Ho Chi Minh City).
