Ta Bon spent his final days optimistically, happily, and joyfully with his family. His eldest son, Ta Ton, also visited him frequently from the United States.
I love music passionately.
Conductor Lê Ha My is the daughter of artist Văn Hà, a contemporary of artist Tạ Bôn. Along with artists Trọng Bằng, Đỗ Dũng, Trần Quý..., they belonged to the first generation of artists sent by the Vietnamese government to study in the Soviet Union, China, Hungary, and Bulgaria.
Le Ha My said, "Music was Uncle Ta Bon's burning passion throughout his life." Even in his final days, when his colleagues from the theater came to visit, he didn't talk much about his illness, but whenever music was mentioned, his eyes would light up.
His wife, Kim Dung (former vice principal of the Ho Chi Minh City Dance School), jokingly said that her husband puts music even above family.
Artist Ta Bon always has a seat of honor in the programs of the Ho Chi Minh City Symphony Orchestra and Opera House.
When he was still healthy, even though he had retired 20 years earlier, whenever the theater organized a performance, unless there was an unavoidable reason, Mr. Bon would always attend and offer very frank, warm, and friendly suggestions and advice to the younger generation of artists.
According to Le Ha My, he was a person who loved his profession, was dedicated, and devoted his entire life to serving and caring deeply for art.
Artist Ta Bon - Setting Sail
A huge loss.
Composer Do Hong Quan, president of the Vietnam Union of Literary and Artistic Associations , calls artist Ta Bon "brother."
During the evacuation, his father, musician Do Nhuan, entrusted Do Hong Quan to the care of the family of artist Ta Phuoc (father of artist Ta Bon). The two families shared a very close relationship.
When Ta Bon finished his studies in the Soviet Union and returned to teach at the Vietnam National School of Music (now the Vietnam National Academy of Music), Do Hong Quan was still a child. Every time he listened to Ta Bon's lectures, he was completely captivated.
Later, when Do Hong Quan went to study at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory, he realized how invaluable the advanced knowledge that Ta Bon had acquired there and then passed on to his country was.
"He was a talented older brother whom I greatly admired," musician Do Hong Quan shared with Tuoi Tre newspaper . Upon hearing the news of Ta Bon's death, Mr. Quan was deeply moved and saddened.
Do Hong Quan believes that Ta Bon is a leading talent in the field of violin in Vietnam. Besides performing, he also contributed to training many generations of Vietnamese violinists.
Do Hong Quan believes that using the word "teacher" in capital letters is necessary to fully express Ta Bon's dedication and responsibility towards the younger generation.
"The passing of Mr. Ta Bon is a great loss to Vietnamese classical music in particular and the literary and artistic community in general. Although he is no longer with us, his music will live on, and his recorded pieces are still being preserved at the Voice of Vietnam Radio."
"In a very special way, he will always live in the hearts and admiration of the public, his students, and the literary community," said Do Hong Quan.
