When sending gifts back home, do we send books, or just ginseng, deer antler, cinnamon, and other medicinal herbs?

That was the question historian Duong Trung Quoc posed to everyone during a conversation at the Book Donation Day event at 19-12 Book Street in Hanoi on April 20th.

The Book Donation Day is the launching event of a community campaign to donate books to Vietnamese farmers with the theme One million books enrich Vietnamese farmers, in response to Book and Reading Culture Day.

Give your father a good book of poetry, not just ginseng, deer antler, cinnamon, or other medicinal herbs.

Mr. Duong Trung Quoc, poet Linh Khieu, had a brief conversation with the young people attending the festival. Mr. Quoc highly appreciated the significance of the community campaign "One Million Books to Enrich Vietnamese Farmers."

He said that one million books for 60 million farmers might "not amount to much," but it awakens an important message in society: the importance of sharing knowledge with farmers, a group to whom society seems to owe a debt.

"When we send gifts back to our hometowns, do we ever send books for our children?"

"Should we send our elderly father a good book of poetry to read, or just ginseng, deer antler, cinnamon, and other health-boosting herbs? Are we contributing to the library of our village temple?...", Mr. Quoc raised the question.

He recounted a story about donating books that impressed him. In some prisons, they did something very good: they encouraged relatives visiting inmates to bring books, and after reading them, the family members could donate them to the prison library for others to read.

Regarding the "One Million Books to Enrich Vietnamese Farmers" project, he noted that organizers and the community participating in the book donation campaign should select books that are appropriate and practical for farmers in the modern era.

Donating books on e-commerce and AI to farmers.

Regarding the question of what books to donate to farmers, the organizers stated that they will send books on topics such as business thinking, e-commerce, AI, personal development skills, and entrepreneurship.

In addition, the campaign aims to build at least 100 rural economic libraries, each equipped with 1,000-2,000 books and computers, helping people access digital resources and modern learning tools.

At the same time, a series of seminars and workshops with experts, entrepreneurs, and artists will be organized throughout to further activate entrepreneurial thinking and spread inspiration for development.

The book donation campaign will be implemented nationwide, starting in Hai Thanh commune, Thanh Hoa province.

Each person participating in the book donation will have the opportunity to write a dedication and sign each book themselves.

This is not just about giving away a book, but about each person conveying their passion, belief, and support to the farmers.
