When sending gifts back home, do we send books, or just ginseng, deer antler, cinnamon and aconite?

That was the question historian Duong Trung Quoc posed to everyone when talking at the Book Donation Day event at the 19-12 Book Street in Hanoi on April 20.

Book Donation Day is an event to launch a community campaign to donate books to Vietnamese farmers with the theme One million books enrich Vietnamese farmers, responding to Book Day and reading culture.

Give dad a good book of poetry, not just ginseng, velvet, cinnamon, and aconite.

Mr. Duong Trung Quoc and poet Linh Khieu had a short talk with the young people attending the festival. Mr. Quoc highly appreciated the significance of the community campaign One million books to enrich Vietnamese farmers.

One million books for 60 million farmers may be "nothing", he said, but it awakens society to an important story: caring about sharing knowledge with farmers, a group to whom society seems to owe.

"When we send gifts back home, do we ever send books back to our children?

Should we send our old father a good book of poetry to read, or just send ginseng, velvet antler, cinnamon, and aconite to improve his health? Should we contribute to the bookshelf of our village temple?...", Mr. Quoc raised the issue.

He told a story about giving books that impressed him. In some prisons, they do a very good thing, which is to encourage relatives to bring books when visiting prisoners. After reading, the relatives can contribute them to the prison bookshelf for others to read.

Regarding the project One Million Books to Enrich Vietnamese Farmers, he noted that the organizers and the community participating in the book donation campaign need to choose the right type of books that are practical for farmers in the new era.

Giving books on e-commerce and AI to farmers

Regarding the question of what books to give to farmers, the organizer said that they will send farmers books on topics such as: business thinking, e-commerce, AI, self-development skills and startups.

In addition, the campaign also aims to build at least 100 rural economic libraries, each equipped with 1,000 - 2,000 books and computers, helping people access digital documents and modern learning tools.

At the same time, a series of seminars and workshops with experts, entrepreneurs and artists will be held throughout to continue to stimulate entrepreneurial thinking and spread development inspiration.

The book donation campaign will be deployed nationwide, starting from Hai Thanh commune, Thanh Hoa province.

Each book donor will be able to directly write a dedication and sign each book.

This is not just an act of giving away a book, but a way for each person to send their passion, trust and companionship to the farmers.
