This morning, September 5th, along with schools nationwide, more than 2,900 schools in Hanoi simultaneously held the opening ceremony for the 2024-2025 school year. The education sector has identified the theme for the new school year as "Innovation, Creativity, Quality Improvement, Unity and Discipline".
Hanoi Party Secretary Bui Thi Minh Hoai attended the opening ceremony at Giang Vo Secondary School (Ba Dinh District).
Hanoi has the largest number of students, accounting for approximately one-tenth of the total number of students nationwide. Mr. Tran The Cuong, Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, stated that this school year, the city continues to lead the country in terms of educational scale. The entire city has over 2,900 schools, nearly 2.3 million students, and almost 130,000 staff, teachers, and employees.

According to calculations, Hanoi sees an average increase of 40,000 to 50,000 students at all levels each year. Mr. Tran The Cuong stated that, among the 10 main tasks for the 2024-2025 school year, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training has identified the top priority as reviewing and supplementing the development plan for the school and classroom network.
In the context of rapid population growth, the Department of Education and Training will strengthen its advisory role to the city in continuing to effectively review, supplement, and replan the school and classroom network to meet the standards and requirements of the reformed general education curriculum.

The city is currently reviewing land resources to expedite the construction of more schools. This school year, Hanoi has two more high schools in operation. By the 2025-2030 period, the entire city will have approximately 30-35 more public high schools. For example, Cau Giay District has allocated land and is building three more public high schools.
The Department will also strengthen its advisory role to the city in allocating sufficient resources for education; persistently and decisively address the shortage of schools and classrooms in some localities, especially in central districts; and focus on repairing and upgrading schools, toilet facilities, and green spaces, creating a green, clean, beautiful, safe, and friendly educational environment.

At the same time, according to Mr. Tran The Cuong, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training is advising the city to direct the acceleration of the construction of schools meeting national standards, aiming to have 80-85% of schools meeting the standards by 2025.
In particular, Hanoi will have 7 more modern, advanced schools, covering all levels from primary to high school, built in the near future. Currently, 4 out of 7 units have received investment approval, which will help ensure that districts with large populations and rapid urbanization have enough school places for their children.
