The "Red Colors of Ba Dinh" tourism and cultural activities series attracts visitors on September 2nd.
New record for tourism in the capital city.
According to the Hanoi Department of Tourism, out of a total of 2.08 million visitors, international tourists accounted for over 80,000, a 35% increase compared to the same holiday period in 2024. Key markets remained China, South Korea, India, Taiwan (China), the United States, Japan, the United Kingdom, and Australia. Total tourism revenue for the city reached approximately 4,500 billion VND, an 80% increase compared to the same period last year. These are record figures for both visitor numbers and tourism revenue in Hanoi during the September 2nd holiday.
Along with the increase in tourist numbers, Ms. Dang Huong Giang, Director of the Hanoi Department of Tourism, said that occupancy rates at 3-5 star hotels remained high. Many hotels such as Novotel Thai Ha, Novotel Suites, Lacasa Hanoi, Bao Son, and Grand Mercure reached 100% occupancy on September 1st. On average, the occupancy rate of Hanoi's accommodation system reached 83%, an increase of 22.6 percentage points compared to the same holiday period last year.
Being honored with the TPO Best Awards 2025 in the "Sustainable Tourism" category is a testament to Hanoi's commitment to developing green tourism, preserving cultural identity, and enhancing the experience of domestic and international tourists.

Notably, hotels and accommodation establishments have strictly complied with regulations on security, safety, environmental hygiene, fire prevention, and temporary residence registration. This contributes to ensuring the image of a safe, civilized, and friendly destination in the eyes of international friends.
To achieve such great appeal, Hanoi prepared a series of special events, spreading the atmosphere of celebrating the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day on September 2nd. A highlight was the distribution of 35,000 gifts to tourists visiting the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum. The "Red Ba Dinh" program, with a series of activities promoting Hanoi's cultural and historical tourism, took place from August 30th to September 2nd, creating a vibrant atmosphere with flags and flowers, transforming Ba Dinh into a bustling destination. On August 31st, Hanoi continued to introduce its new product, "The Hanoi Train – Hanoi's 5-Gate Tourist Train," connecting Thang Long and Kinh Bac. This is one of the efforts to create innovative products to extend the length of stay for tourists. In particular, the exhibition "80 Years of Independence - Freedom - Happiness" at the National Exhibition Center (Dong Anh) made a significant impact, attracting nearly 1.2 million visitors in just the first three days of the holiday.
A destination for "Sustainable tourism"
During this year's National Day holiday, most of Hanoi's familiar destinations recorded a significant increase in visitors, creating an unusually vibrant tourism scene. The Temple of Literature – National University welcomed approximately 18,000 visitors, Hoa Lo Prison over 26,000, and Thang Long Imperial Citadel and Hanoi Zoo both reached 33,000 visitors. Suburban destinations such as Ba Vi National Park, Ao Vua, and Co Loa also attracted large numbers of families and young people.
A special highlight was the program welcoming international journalists and overseas Vietnamese to visit Bat Trang pottery village, Duong Lam ancient village, and experience the Hop-On Hop-Off double-decker bus. These activities contributed to spreading the image of Hanoi as a city with a thousand years of cultural heritage, while also being modern, dynamic, and integrated. In addition, the capital city also attracted tourists with a series of new entertainment destinations such as Lotte Mall Tay Ho and Vinhomes Ocean Park, meeting the leisure and entertainment needs of many young families.
Throughout the city, a series of art events and exhibitions are taking place continuously: Hoa Lo Prison has the exhibition "Sharp Pen, Loyal Heart"; the Ho Chi Minh Museum displays thematic exhibitions "80 Years of the People's Police Remembering Uncle Ho's Words," "Autumn of Independence," and the large oil painting "Spring of Independence." Thang Long Imperial Citadel has opened many sections such as the D67 House and Tunnel, the Cryptography Tunnel - General Staff Headquarters, and the Hanoi Monument.
Simultaneously, Hanoi organized numerous large-scale art programs: a light mapping show at the August Revolution Square and Hoan Kiem Lake; the "80 Years - Proud Vietnam" program at Dong Kinh Nghia Thuc Square; "Hanoi - Forever Shining with Vietnamese Aspirations" at the National Exhibition Center, along with music festivals at My Dinh Stadium and Thong Nhat Park. Military parades, processions, and fireworks displays at five locations across the city became a "grand light show," leaving an unforgettable impression of a vibrant and spirited Hanoi.
Not only did Hanoi make an impression domestically, but it also made its mark internationally by participating in the 12th General Assembly of the Tourism Promotion Organization of Global Cities (TPO) in Ho Chi Minh City, from September 3rd to 6th. The Hanoi delegation participated in many key activities focusing on digital transformation, sustainable development, and cooperation promotion. Notably, the capital city was honored in the "Sustainable Tourism" category at the TPO Best Awards 2025.
This recognizes initiatives to reduce single-use plastics, install trash cans at historical sites, develop green products, and organize community events such as "Green Sunday".
The fact that Hanoi has both set a record for the number of visitors and received international recognition confirms the correctness of its development strategy with a dual objective: growth in numbers and aiming to become a safe, friendly, green, and integrated destination.
