The Binh Bridge, spanning the Kinh Thay River at km 77+900 on National Highway 37 and connecting Tran Phu commune and Le Dai Hanh ward ( Hai Phong City ), has been proposed for upgrading to ensure adequate clearance for navigation on this Class II inland waterway, facilitating the smooth flow of water transport vehicles, especially container barges.
According to expert assessments, the current clearance for navigation under the Binh Bridge is only about 50 x 7 meters, which does not meet the requirements for a Class II inland waterway, affecting the capacity for waterway transport and the structural safety of the bridge.

The project is expected to contribute to improving the capacity of waterway freight transport, increasing connectivity between the Red River Delta region and the seaport system, including Lach Huyen port, while simultaneously reducing pressure on road traffic.
The Binh Bridge, over 321 meters long and 11 meters wide, was built in the early 1990s with two lanes for motorized vehicles. After more than 30 years of operation, the Binh Bridge has revealed many shortcomings, with current traffic volume reaching nearly 12,400 vehicles per day and night, far exceeding the initial design capacity of 3,000-6,000 vehicles per day and night. The narrow bridge width, coupled with the increasing number of heavy trucks and container vehicles, frequently overloads the structure, posing a potential traffic safety risk.
According to the proposal, the project is expected to commence in the fourth quarter of 2026 and be substantially completed in 2029.
