- The story of the family of a disabled veteran (category 2/4)
In 1985, Tran Van Tam (residing in Trung Hung 1B hamlet, Chau Thoi commune) volunteered to fight for Cambodia, was wounded, and lost a leg. Upon returning home, Mr. Tam became a disabled veteran (category 3/4). His neighbors cherished him for his gentle nature and friendly lifestyle, and especially admired his willpower and determination to overcome his circumstances as a disabled veteran with a physical disability.
Despite frequently suffering from pain due to his injury, Mr. Tam is a very hardworking man. Besides tending to his crops, he also takes advantage of his free time to buy freshwater fish, then cycles around the neighborhood to sell them and earn a profit, improving his family's income.

Trusted by the local government and the community, Mr. Tam joined the Veterans' Association and the Farmers' Association of the hamlet, and was later elected Head of Trung Hung 1B hamlet. In 2010, he resigned from his position due to declining health. As a citizen, he actively participated in local movements. He meticulously trimmed the trees and ornamental plants in front of his house, contributing to the beautification of the village; and he worked alongside the local authorities in disseminating information to help people understand and participate in emulation movements.
Mr. Le Van Son, Head of Trung Hung 1B hamlet, said: “Upholding the qualities of a soldier of Uncle Ho, during his time in service, regardless of his position, Comrade Tam always did his best. For the community, in addition to building good neighborly relations, he also actively propagated and created consensus and support from the people, especially in the movement to build model new rural areas and implement the two-tiered local government model.”
In Long Duc hamlet, Phuoc Long commune, almost everyone knows about war veteran Danh Van Thoai. The people love him because throughout his 18 years of service in the commune and hamlet, Mr. Thoai has always been a dedicated official who wholeheartedly serves the people.
For many years, the image of the disabled veteran and head of the Veterans' Association in the hamlet riding his old bicycle to knock on doors to disseminate the Party and State's policies and guidelines to the people has become familiar. He has also enthusiastically helped many people who faced difficulties in handling administrative procedures. Despite his own hardships, Mr. Thoai regularly mobilizes benefactors to provide rice and essential goods for single-parent households and people with disabilities.

For his contributions, Mr. Danh Van Thoai was awarded numerous certificates of merit by the Central Committee and the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee for his outstanding achievements in studying and following the ideology, ethics, and style of Ho Chi Minh .
“Learning from Uncle Ho’s approach of being close to the people, I often go to people’s homes to visit, encourage, and understand their thoughts and aspirations, so that I can promptly convey them to the leadership at all levels, as well as use appropriate methods of propaganda. In building new rural areas and moving towards model new rural areas, my family must take the lead in all tasks; only then will we be able to persuade the people to follow,” Mr. Thoai expressed.
Mr. Tran Van Tam and Mr. Danh Van Thoai are two of many exemplary war invalids who have dedicated their lives to studying and following President Ho Chi Minh's teachings. Their contributions have and will continue to enhance the image of the Ho Chi Minh's soldiers in the new era.
