The decision to bring the case to trial was announced this week. The allegations relate to an incident that allegedly occurred in February 2023 at Hakimi's home in Val-de-Marne, a region southeast of Paris.
A 24-year-old woman alleges that he assaulted her after they met on social media. According to her previous testimony, the plaintiff stated that she arrived at Hakimi's house in a taxi booked by the player. She alleges being kissed and touched without consent before being raped. She says she pushed him away and texted a friend to pick her up.
Hakimi denies all charges. On social media platform X, he wrote that a single charge is enough to warrant trial and affirmed that he will wait for the court to clarify the truth. His lawyer, Fanny Colin, said the decision to open the trial was based solely on the plaintiff's testimony. She also said her client has always cooperated with the investigation.
In March 2023, Hakimi was initially charged. Under French law, a preliminary indictment means the judge has grounds to suspect a crime has occurred but needs more time to investigate before deciding on a trial.
Now, the case has officially gone to court. The plaintiff expressed relief that the case has entered the trial phase. Her lawyer stated that the judicial authorities have handled the case according to proper procedures.
When asked about the impact of the incident on the team, PSG coach Luis Enrique simply stated that it was a matter for the judicial system.
Hakimi, 27, joined PSG in 2021 after spells at Real Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, and Inter Milan. While awaiting a final ruling, his future will depend on the court's decision.
