In its latest announcement on April 27th, Microsoft stated that it has completed the final update for Windows 10. Windows 10 22H2 is the current version and will also be the last version of the Windows 10 operating system.
However, Microsoft is committed to releasing monthly security patches until October 14, 2025. “Long-Term Service (LTSC) versions will continue to be released until the end of their lifecycle,” Microsoft stated. This means these versions will not receive regular feature updates as before, but only security and bug fixes.
According to Cnet , if Microsoft stops updating with new features, it will encourage users to switch to Windows 11. Users can still use Windows 10 even after the support for updates has expired. However, your device will be more susceptible to viruses or vulnerabilities due to the lack of security updates.
Windows 11 was announced in October 2021 and officially released to supported devices in May 2022. The tech company shifted its development focus to Windows 11 with a series of new applications, interface refinements, and several other improvements. After 1.5 years since the launch of Windows 11, it's understandable that Microsoft has set a final date for the older Windows 10 operating system, which was released in 2015.

According to Ars Technica , Microsoft's announcement of the end of Windows 10 was not surprising to users. Microsoft had never before released full release notes outlining the key features of Windows 10 22H2. Instead, they focused on Windows 11 and system software upgrades.
The demise of Windows 10 also means that devices that don't meet the minimum system requirements for Windows 11 will not be able to receive official security updates from the manufacturer. They will have to switch to using pirated versions of Windows 11 or install alternative operating systems such as ChromeOS Flex, Linux, etc.
Jason Leznek, Director of Product Management, stated that the next LTSC version of Windows 11 will be released as early as the second half of 2024. Users of this version will receive security updates later than with regular Windows versions.
LTSC is often used by IT managers to avoid frequent operating system updates. Regular users will receive Windows 11 23H2 in the second half of this year, Leznek revealed.
Previously, Microsoft announced it would stop selling online licenses for Windows 10 Home and Pro versions starting January 31st. Windows 10, launched in July 2015, focuses on responsiveness and rapid updates. This operating system is an improvement over Windows 8, which was heavily criticized for removing the Start button and focusing on a touch interface.
According to The Verge , Windows 10 was also Microsoft's first operating system to be distributed as a service with annual updates. At one point, Windows 10 was touted as "the last version of Windows."
