According to South Korean news agency Yonhap, the South Korean National Assembly officially passed a resolution on June 30th approving Han Seong-sook as Prime Minister. Of the 167 lawmakers who participated in the vote, 166 voted in favor and one vote was invalid.

With this result, Ms. Han will officially become the 50th Prime Minister of South Korea, and the second Prime Minister under President Lee Jae Myung, just 23 days after she was nominated by Mr. Lee on June 7th.
Her confirmation also makes Han the second female Prime Minister in South Korean history, exactly 20 years after Han Myeong-sook became the first woman to hold the position in 2006.
Ms. Han Seong-sook was formerly the CEO of the online portal group Naver and has spent much of her career in the information technology sector. Prior to that, she served as the first Minister of Small and Medium Enterprises under President Lee Jae-myung's administration.
When announcing the nomination, the South Korean President's Office assessed Han as "the right person to lead the country during a crucial strategic transition period amidst the wave of artificial intelligence innovation and increasingly complex global crises."
Ms. Han's appointment is expected to help President Lee Jae Myung's administration quickly finalize its governing body, as South Korea faces numerous challenges related to economic growth, digital transformation, and global technological competition.
