Google's decision is said to follow Apple's product update roadmap. Previously, when releasing iOS 17, Apple also stopped supporting product lines such as iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X.
This means that the new version of Chrome will not be able to work on the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X models. This move could have a significant impact, as there are still millions of users globally using these devices.
Similarly, the new version of Chrome will also only support iPadOS 17 and later. Therefore, this change also affects a series of older tablets, including the 5th generation iPad, 9.7-inch iPad Pro, and 12.9-inch iPad Pro (first generation).
Not long ago, Google also released an update for the YouTube app on the iOS platform, requiring devices to run iOS 16 or later to be able to install and use.
This change means that a number of older iPhone and iPad models will no longer be directly compatible with the YouTube app.
Affected iPhone models include the iPhone 6S, iPhone 6S Plus, iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, and the first-generation iPhone SE. The 7th-generation iPod Touch is also on the list of devices that are no longer supported.
