On the afternoon of May 7, 2015, after their membership induction ceremony, students Nong Van Binh, Nong Van Bao, and Nong Van Ty, on their way home, stopped at the sandy bank of the Chay River to take some commemorative photos. The song "Youth Union Anthem" still echoed in their ears : "As we celebrate the New Year, we young people march forward together, raising our fists to swear to preserve peace, independence, and freedom. As we celebrate the New Year, we young people resolutely move forward..." Suddenly, a small child ran along the riverbank, frantically shouting from about 20 meters away , "Help! Help my friend!"
Without hesitation, the three young friends ran like lightning towards the sound of the cries for help. Looking out at the water, they saw a small child with a tuft of hair bobbing and gradually sinking. Immediately, Tý and his friends plunged into the swirling water to pull the victim ashore. When pulled out, the child was unconscious, showing signs of respiratory arrest, pale, and with a swollen abdomen from water. Using their school knowledge, they promptly administered first aid and artificial respiration. Initially, the child showed no reaction, their breathing weakened, and they became faint and weak. Although somewhat flustered, worried, and helpless, they calmly continued first aid until the child gradually regained consciousness. They repeated this process several times, for about 10 minutes, until the child's heart began to beat again and some water came out of their mouth. Without further delay, Ty and his friends hoisted the little girl onto their shoulders, ran to the main road, and asked someone to take her to the hospital.
With their quick thinking, agility, and courage, a group of three 11th-grade students from Bao Yen No. 1 High School saved a drowning victim. The family of Thang, the rescued drowning victim, was extremely grateful and thankful. In an emotional moment, Ms. Ha, Thang's mother, expressed , "Thank you for helping my son escape this critical situation. Our family is truly grateful! If it weren't for your timely and quick thinking, I don't know what would have happened to my son."
Admiring their courageous spirit, on Monday morning (May 10, 2015), the school's administration, the Youth Union, teachers, and over 1,000 students commended and praised the three students: Nong Van Ty - class 11A4, Nong Van Bao, and Nong Van Binh - class 11A9.
The timely rescue by Tý and his friends was a courageous act, a valuable example for young people like us to learn from and emulate.
