Huawei, one of the leading technology companies, has made significant contributions to the deep and broad development of China's digital economy .

Breakthroughs in digital transformation

China's digital economy has made impressive strides, reaching an estimated size of nearly 54 trillion RMB (approximately 7.4 trillion USD), with an annual growth rate of 10.3%.

This reflects the efforts of the government , businesses, and people for a strong transformation and the application of technology in various industries. In this context, Huawei has made significant contributions, driving the comprehensive digital transformation process in the country.

The application of digital transformation to key industries has become a decisive factor for comprehensive development, boosting the potential of these industries in particular and the digital economy in general.

The oil and gas industry is one of the key sectors where the company has applied advanced technology to address challenges in exploration and production.

Accordingly, the smart exploration solution developed by China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) in collaboration with the company has helped increase production and reserves while reducing operating costs.

Specifically, CNPC and Huawei developed the Kunlun earthquake platform model with AI technology, building more than 235,000 visual datasets in just two months, enabling accurate processing of geological and seismic data and significantly improving the success rate in oil and gas exploration operations.

In addition, the company has also deployed a smart pipeline network monitoring solution for the China Oil and Gas Pipeline Network Corporation (PipeChina).

The fiber optic warning system, based on distributed fiber optic sensor technology, has helped to effectively monitor areas with long pipelines, minimizing oil theft and improving safety during transportation.

The surveillance solution boasts a 100% identification rate and provides 24-hour security maintenance services. Thanks to this solution, over 100 incidents of unauthorized access have been prevented in a timely manner.

In the mining industry, the application of autonomous driving technology has brought about significant advancements in enhancing safety and efficiency at work.

At Asia's largest lead and zinc mine in Yunnan, where trucks carrying newly mined ore traverse rough terrain and harsh weather conditions, the company and Chihong T&E have collaborated on a cloud platform to deploy and manage autonomous trucks for ore transport.

The vehicles are efficiently operated, easily handling difficult road sections, minimizing risks and ensuring the safety of workers during the mining process.

Zheng Yanchao, project leader from Chihong T&E, said: "Our success is proof that autonomous driving technology can be used in mineral mines on a larger scale, bringing more value to the industry."

Digital transformation is a long-term process, and we hope to promote the deployment of these safe and efficient production technologies to benefit the mining industry."

Both the oil and gas and mining industries have shown significant transformation thanks to digital technology, opening up new avenues for sustainable and efficient development in the future.

Digital transformation is not just a trend, but also an urgent requirement to enhance competitiveness and meet the ever-increasing demands of the global market.

Developing production in niche markets.

Digital transformation, supported by Huawei, was a turning point that led to Midea Group's success - Photo: HW

Besides key industries, digital transformation is also being applied to niche markets in China, improving efficiency and bringing new value to these sectors.

As one of the pioneers in applying digital transformation to its production lines, Midea Group, starting from a small workshop producing plastic bottle caps, has quickly risen to become one of the world's largest manufacturers of household appliances.

One of the key factors in the group's success is its pioneering application of technology to optimize production processes.

Specifically, in 2021, Midea marked a new milestone by collaborating with Huawei and China Unicom to build a smart 5G-connected manufacturing plant using a private 5G network for a factory in Hubei Province, China. This provides comprehensive connectivity for production and processing, quality control, equipment operation and maintenance, and ensures health and safety in the workplace.

Thanks to this change, the factory's production line now takes only 15 seconds to produce a washing machine. The factory also increased delivery speed to customers, cut inventory in half, and reduced labor costs by 30% for each department.

This project also received the 5G Industry Challenge Award, recognizing its success in the widespread application of 5G technology in smart manufacturing in general and the company's efforts in 5G development in particular at MWC 2023.

Applying digital transformation to the production of Maotai liquor has helped improve the production process and maintain the reputation of this long-standing Chinese liquor brand. - Photo: HW

Besides Midea, Guizhou Maotai – China's most famous traditional liquor producer – has also adopted digital transformation to improve product quality and optimize production processes.

In 2020, this wine brand partnered with Huawei to deploy IoT infrastructure to monitor changes in warehouse storage conditions, quickly identify issues that could affect wine quality, and thereby improve the production process.

This not only improves product quality but also helps Maotai liquor maintain its reputation in the traditional liquor industry.

The combination of technology and traditional manufacturing is opening up new opportunities for businesses to meet the growing demands of the market, reduce costs, and increase productivity.

Therefore, digital transformation is not just a strategy, but also an essential requirement for survival and development in an increasingly fierce competitive environment.

In addition to contributing to China's digital technology development, Huawei actively collaborates with international businesses in applying technology to various economic sectors.

In Thailand, the company has deployed a smart 5G hospital model, helping to improve the quality of healthcare services and enhance the patient experience. Similarly, in Laos, Huawei contributed to the construction of the Laos-China highway, creating convenient transportation connections and boosting regional economic development.

Mr. Li Peng, Senior Vice President and President of Huawei's ICT Business & Services Group, shared: "We are entering a smart world. We – Huawei – will continue to strive to bring more smart digital infrastructure products and solutions to accelerate the digital transformation of industries. In addition, we will work together with our partners to develop together and move towards a smart world."
