Each student participating in the competition is a "piece of the puzzle" with their own individual abilities and unique characteristics, yet all sharing creativity, talent, and a spirit of dedication. By combining two genres: a "showcase" where teams present their ideas and a practical experience as they implement their projects, the competition delivered exciting contests, attracting the attention of students nationwide.

Turn challenges into opportunities to shine.

"New Generation Students" is a reality TV show produced by VTV, which not only seeks out talent but also inspires a spirit of dedication, creativity, and community responsibility among young people. It's an academic and entertainment platform where students are encouraged to realize innovative ideas and community projects.

While Season 1 (2023) focused on community project development and introduced the basic format, Season 3, airing from November 9th, 2025, has revamped the format with practical challenges, emphasizing the spirit of "I" to "we," shifting from individual aspirations to creating community value. The highlight is that projects must be completed within a limited timeframe, testing skills while simultaneously fostering teamwork and project management.

The teams will go through five main rounds of competition: preliminary round - searching for and selecting potential teams; qualifying round - presenting project ideas; practical round - teams must realize their community projects, work in teams, and solve real-world situations; dissemination round - expanding influence and promoting the project to create social impact; and the final round - the strongest team will be honored and have the opportunity to further develop their project.

This year, the New Generation Student Competition brings together 8 teams from 8 leading universities in both the North and South of Vietnam, including Lac Hong University representing Dong Nai province . The university selected and sent a delegation consisting of 1 lecturer and 10 outstanding students from the Information Technology, Oriental Studies, and English Language departments to participate.
programme.

Directly accompanying students participating in the program from idea generation and model refinement to presentation skills training, Mr. Bui Xuan Canh from the Faculty of Information Technology observed the students' daily progress. From being hesitant in presentation techniques and lacking confidence in front of the camera, they have now become able to express themselves fluently, analyze data clearly, and defend their viewpoints persuasively.

Lecturer Bui Xuan Canh shared: “In research and innovation projects, I always consider each student as an independent individual with their own strengths and values. The first task of a lecturer is to correctly identify each student's abilities, from skills, techniques, and design thinking to communication and analytical skills. When assigned roles that match their strengths, students not only maximize their abilities but also feel recognized, thus becoming more proactive and creative in their work.”

At the selection round of the "Identity Arena" competition, 10 contestants from Lac Hong University demonstrated their abilities and confidence before the judging panel to find the 5 most outstanding members to continue their journey as New Generation Students. As one of the students advancing, Hoang Gia Huy (Faculty of Information Technology) shared: being an introvert, participating in an academic, interactive, and critical thinking program like "New Generation Students" was quite a challenge. To adapt well, Huy spent a lot of time practicing presentation, public speaking, and critical thinking skills, as well as teamwork skills. This helped Huy gradually become more flexible and better suited to the spirit of a new generation student.

The program helps students develop highly practical skills such as working under time pressure, teamwork in a filming environment, receiving feedback from judges, and adjusting their work right on set. These are experiences that are difficult to provide in a typical classroom setting.

From the lecture hall into real life

In the program, each team had to develop and implement a community project. Among them, the Borderwave project – a system connecting aquatic and marine resources for fishermen – from the team at Lac Hong University was highly praised.

According to the team members, the project is a digital platform that directly connects fishermen and buyers, helping to manage the seafood supply chain transparently, ensuring traceability, and supporting Vietnam in removing the IUU (Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated) fishing "yellow card." The project aims to bring increased income and reduced risks for fishermen through transparent and secure transactions. It utilizes digital technology to digitize seafood data and track fishing journeys, contributing to the protection of aquatic resources and sustainable economic development.

Sharing about the idea behind Borderwave, Bui Binh Minh (a student in the Faculty of Information Technology) said that the idea was formed from a very ordinary but meaningful experience.

“During a trip to Vung Tau with our team, we had the opportunity to talk with local fishermen. They shared about the difficulties they face: from uncertain product sales and unstable prices to limited access to market information and purchasing units. These genuine stories made the team realize that behind every catch of fish lies a great deal of worry that fishermen have to bear. That moment motivated the team to create a practical solution – a project that can help them improve their income, enhance transparency, and connect better with the market,” said student Binh Minh.

Mai Quynh Nhu (a student from the Faculty of Oriental Studies) - the only female member of the team - shared: "The team had to work together to build a complete project, from identifying the real-world problems of fishermen, developing solution ideas, designing application models, to planning implementation and proposing the value proposition. The whole team analyzed market needs, interviewed target users, created functional demos, and prepared presentations to introduce the project. The male members handled technical and data processing tasks, while Quynh Nhu took on data analysis, opinion filtering, and market research..."

“The competition gave me many lessons about research, solution design, and presentation, thereby improving my academic and soft skills. Most importantly, the project made me feel a stronger desire to serve the community,” shared Quynh Nhu.

The new generation of students is entering exciting and captivating competitions every Sunday evening on VTV3.
