Accordingly, the front camera system of the iPhone 17 generation will be upgraded to 24MP resolution, instead of 12MP like current models. Faced with the superior selfie camera capabilities of its competitors, Apple is forced to upgrade its product lines to increase competitiveness.

Additionally, the new lens on the iPhone 17 generation will also be designed with 6 elements, instead of 5 elements like the iPhone 15 generation. These changes are expected to significantly improve the quality of photos taken with the front camera.
These changes will double the total cost of producing the front camera. This will positively impact the revenue of manufacturing partner Genius.
In addition to these upgrades, the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max are expected to be the first iPhones from the company to feature Face ID facial recognition under the screen. The selfie camera will still be designed in a punch-hole style.
Previously, MacRumors also revealed that the camera system on the iPhone 17 Pro Max would be upgraded with a telephoto lens boasting a resolution of up to 48MP, instead of the 12MP found on current models.
The iPhone 17 generation will launch in 2025, while the iPhone 16 series will launch later this year. According to a recent rumor, the iPhone 16 won't have many changes compared to its predecessor, which could lead to "unremarkable" sales figures.
