Cat Ba is an archipelago consisting of 367 islands of varying sizes belonging to Cat Hai District, Hai Phong Province . Cat Ba Island is located off the coast of the Gulf of Tonkin, only 30km from the center of Hai Phong city and about 150km from the capital Hanoi .

This area has been recognized by UNESCO as a world biosphere reserve due to its diverse and rich ecosystem. The Cat Ba archipelago also boasts many pristine forests on limestone mountains floating on the sea, creating a dreamy and beautiful landscape.

Besides the wonder of Ha Long Bay, Cat Ba Island is a popular coastal tourist destination in Northern Vietnam that has attracted many visitors in recent years. To keep up with the trend, Cat Ba Island has been receiving significant investment in infrastructure and diverse tourism services to offer visitors many exciting experiences.

The sunny summer weather is also the time when Cat Ba Island is at its most beautiful, with its clear, cool blue sea. Located in the sea, Cat Ba enjoys a cool, pleasant climate, unlike the scorching heat of other provinces in Northern Vietnam. Therefore, the number of tourists flocking to Cat Ba in the summer to escape the heat is always very high, often leading to overcrowding.

Currently, there are many ways to get to Cat Ba Island; you can choose to travel from Hai Phong or Ha Long. The Hai Phong to Cat Ba route is the most time-saving, however, if you want to enjoy the scenery of the Gulf of Tonkin, traveling from Ha Long would be a more ideal choice.

If traveling from Ha Long to Cat Ba, you can take a speedboat from Tuan Chau Port to Gia Luan Island in Cat Ba for approximately 80,000 VND per person. This bay sightseeing tour is usually quite crowded, so it's advisable to book your tickets in advance.

If departing from Hanoi, you can take a bus or drive your own vehicle to Hai Phong and Ha Long to reach Cat Ba Island. Bus fares from Hanoi to Hai Phong range from 80,000 VND to 150,000 VND per person (depending on the bus company). For the Hanoi - Ha Long route, the fare will be higher, ranging from 100,000 VND to 200,000 VND.
