In economic development and sustainable poverty reduction, Hop Thanh mountainous commune has clearly identified agricultural production as the main sector in its economic structure. In recent years, the commune has made many positive changes through the development of concentrated production, expanding linkages, and promoting key products associated with the construction of new rural areas.
Mr. Nguyen Van Thuong, Vice Chairman of the Commune People's Committee, said: "To ensure stable and sustainable economic development, the locality always prioritizes changing the production mindset of the people, gradually eliminating outdated farming methods, applying advanced production processes, building agricultural commodity zones, and increasing the value of agricultural products."
To achieve high production results, local authorities proactively coordinate with specialized agencies to organize training courses annually to transfer advanced and modern scientific and technical knowledge to farmers. Each year, hundreds of farmers participate in training courses on advanced scientific and technical knowledge transfer in rice cultivation, fruit tree and vegetable farming, and livestock and poultry raising. Through these courses, the farmers' production skills and expertise are significantly improved.
The effectiveness is clearly demonstrated in the last 5 years, with the value of agricultural, forestry, and fisheries production in the commune increasing by an average of over 4% per year. The total grain production averages nearly 5,400 tons per year. The value of products obtained from cultivated land reaches 95 million VND/ha.
Currently, specialized organic farming areas are being developed in the commune, and the quality and value of key agricultural products continue to increase. Local products such as tea, sticky rice, and honey have established brands in the market. The commune has 9 OCOP products that have achieved 3 to 5 stars, including the "Shrimp Bud Tea with Local Fragrance" product of Phu Luong Agricultural Products Cooperative, which has achieved 5 stars.
In a conversation with us, Mr. Truong Cong Hau from Na Bieu hamlet shared: "With access to advanced scientific and technical production methods, we farmers are more proactive in our seasonal production. Especially in recent years, the lives of the people have improved thanks to the effective implementation of poverty reduction programs and policies by the local government."
Mr. Hoang Gia Tong from Bo Che hamlet said: "Through the local government, agricultural officials have guided and transferred production techniques and experience; banks in the province have provided timely loans to farmers... The difficulties of the people have been compensated at the right time, creating more motivation for them to confidently develop production."

| Exchanging production experiences at the field level helps farmers improve their farming techniques, contributing to increased crop yields and quality. |
The restructuring of crop and livestock production, the application of science and technology, the use of high technology, and digital transformation in production have become a widespread movement among the people. The Vai sticky rice variety has become popular thanks to farmers' investment in its development and quality improvement. With 230 hectares of land planted with Vai sticky rice, the yield reaches 970 tons per year, generating over 17 billion VND in revenue.
Sharing with us, Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuong Loan from Tien Bo hamlet proudly said: Besides the sticky rice variety "Vai," many people inside and outside the province know about Hop Thanh mountainous commune because of its "smart rice farming" model. In Thai Nguyen province, Hop Thanh commune is the first locality to be certified for reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 44.51 tons of carbon, equivalent to an economic value of more than 17 million VND.
Along with rice, tea cultivation has received significant investment and development from the local authorities to improve its quality. Currently, the commune has nearly 146 hectares of tea plantations, with an average annual production of over 1,300 tons of fresh tea leaves in the last five years. This figure is projected to reach 1,585 tons in 2025. With an average selling price of 200,000 VND per kilogram of dried tea, tea cultivation brings the people of Hop Thanh commune over 63 billion VND per year.
Besides the two main crops, the livestock sector is also given attention and encouraged by the local authorities. To date, the entire commune has 19 pig and chicken farms; the total output of live meat reaches over 1,486 tons/year.
Economic stability has given the people of Hop Thanh commune more confidence in participating in patriotic emulation movements, especially the movement to jointly build new rural areas. During the period 2020-2025, the people of the commune participated in building and completing 19 illuminated roads with a total length of nearly 30km; and 6 roads decorated with flags and flowers with a length of 4.5km. Along Road 263, in the commune's center, densely populated areas, and the centers of the hamlets, the people supported the installation of LED lights to decorate the trees.
In addition to donating thousands of square meters of land to expand rural roads, the people of the commune contributed over 10,000 man-days of labor to clean village roads and alleys. Notably, Dong Rom hamlet has been recognized as a model new rural area.
Hop Thanh commune, home to thousands of people, is flourishing day by day. Currently, 90% of the main village and inter-village roads are paved with concrete; 100% of the villages have cultural centers serving community activities. With convenient transportation connections to the provincial center, the lives of the ethnic minority people in Hop Thanh commune have improved significantly.
As we parted ways, Mr. Nguyen Huu Hieu, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Hop Thanh commune, affirmed: "Although the commune has tens of thousands of inhabitants, all the people in the commune are united in their efforts to build and develop their homeland, making it more prosperous day by day."
