Artifacts "tell the story" of autumn in independence.

From time-worn photographs and red flags with yellow stars that once fluttered during historic moments, to brushstrokes depicting the faces of soldiers, the autumn of independence seems to come alive again in the sacred space of the Ho Chi Minh Presidential Palace Historical Site.

From President Ho Chi Minh's legacy to stories of peace.

These days, the Ho Chi Minh Memorial Site at the Presidential Palace is becoming the focal point of a series of activities commemorating the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day on September 2nd, with the highlight being the exhibition "Vietnam - Ho Chi Minh - Milestones in the Nation's History".

The exhibition is divided into five sections, featuring over 200 valuable images, documents, and artifacts, guiding viewers from the days when President Ho Chi Minh left his homeland to seek a path to national salvation, through the glorious autumn of 1945 and the resounding victory at Dien Bien Phu, to the day the country rejoiced in reunification and the current process of reform and integration.

Also within the historical site, the thematic exhibition "Journey for Peace" and the exhibition "Continuing the Story of Peace" bring the public closer to an underlying value: peace is the achievement of an entire nation that knows how to sacrifice and persevere.

The artifacts related to President Ho Chi Minh and General Nguyen Chi Thanh recreate the milestones in the struggle to protect the fledgling independence, affirming the truth: to have peace, one must maintain national independence.

The exhibition on Vietnam's participation in United Nations peacekeeping operations showcases the image of Vietnamese blue beret soldiers carrying out an international mission, demonstrating both courage and resilience, while also serving as cultural ambassadors, spreading the positive qualities of the Vietnamese people.

On this occasion, the historical site also hosted the launch of two special publications: "President Ho Chi Minh and General Nguyen Chi Thanh," which fully portrays the close teacher-student and leader-colleague relationship, while honoring the General's outstanding contributions; and "The former Indochina Governor-General's Palace and the present-day Presidential Palace," which tells the story of how a colonial architectural structure transformed into a sacred historical space, a convergence point of culture, politics, and national sentiment.

According to Le Thi Phuong, Director of the Ho Chi Minh Presidential Palace Historical Site, the series of activities and events have contributed to spreading the invaluable heritage values at the Presidential Palace Historical Site - a special national historical site.

This also marks the first time AR technology has been applied at the historical site, allowing viewers to "encounter" history in a visual and vivid way, creating a bridge between heritage and the younger generation in the digital age.

On August 15th, the National Archives Center I launched the online exhibition "Nothing is more precious than independence and freedom," showcasing many rare documents and images about nearly a century of resilience under colonial rule and 80 years of nation-building.

Portraits of the Sons of Vietnam through painting

At the same time, at the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum, the exhibition "Children of the Fatherland" opened up a vibrant artistic space where the past and present intertwine in every color and line.

Eighty representative works from the period 1947-1986, ranging from oil paintings, lacquerware, silk, paper, wood to plaster, vividly portray the portraits of outstanding individuals of the nation, from heroes like Nguyen Van Troi, Mrs. Nguyen Thi Dinh, and doctor Ton That Tung, to female militia members, liberation fighters, miners, and farmers in remote areas…

The exhibition is not only an artistic activity but also a profound tribute, inspiring a spirit of striving and continuing the flame of patriotism, so that every Vietnamese person today can proudly continue on the path of building a prosperous and happy Vietnam. The exhibition brings together many great names of modern Vietnamese art such as Phan Kế An, Bùi Xuân Phái, Nguyễn Sáng, Diệp Minh Châu, Huỳnh Văn Gấm, along with the artist-martyrs Hoàng Anh, Hà Xuân Phong…

Nguyen Anh Minh, Director of the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum, shared: “At the exhibition, visitors will be able to admire works depicting the images of people who contributed to the overall victory of the nation in many different positions and roles, such as: Dr. Ton That Tung's surgery in the tunnel, depicted by female artist Van Duong Thanh; or the Cam Pha mine emulation soldier Pham Trong Thuy, depicted by renowned painter Nguyen Sang; and the female labor hero Nguyen Thi Khuong, depicted by artist Than Trong Su…”.

This year's series of activities commemorating the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day on September 2nd is a harmonious blend of past and present. Each artifact, each painting, each page of a book has become a special piece, telling the story of the autumn of independence. It is the autumn of aspirations, of faith, and of a nation that rose up to take control of its own destiny.
