What does coach Mai Duc Chung expect?

In an interview ahead of the international friendly football tournament in Chongqing, China, coach Mai Duc Chung affirmed that this is a good opportunity for the Vietnamese women's national team in the process of rejuvenating and preparing a strong squad for the future.

"This tournament is taking place during the Vietnamese women's national football team's youth rejuvenation process. Therefore, this will be a good opportunity for the players to learn from their opponents and gain experience for the future," coach Mai Duc Chung assessed.

The Vietnamese women's national team will face Uzbekistan and China in international friendly matches. According to the schedule, the Vietnamese women's team will compete against the Uzbekistan women's team at 2:30 PM on October 23rd. Following that, Coach Mai Duc Chung's team will face the Chinese women's team at 6:35 PM on October 29th.

At the meeting, coach Mai Duc Chung expressed his gratitude to the Chinese Football Association (CFA) for inviting the Vietnamese women's national team to participate in the tournament, as well as to the leaders of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) for creating favorable conditions for the team to be here for friendly matches against China and Uzbekistan.

Before departing for this tournament, the Vietnamese women's team also made personnel changes when striker Nguyen Thi Tuyet Ngan suffered an injury and had to undergo treatment, forcing the coaching staff to call up striker Vu Thi Hoa as a replacement.

Also at the press conference, Uzbekistan women's national team head coach Vladimir Panov expressed his appreciation for the tournament, given the opportunity to compete against high-quality opponents from across the continent.

As the host nation, the head coach of the Chinese women's national team thanked both teams for accepting the invitation to participate in the tournament and expressed hope that they would achieve their set goals.

The Vietnamese women's national team will have two high-quality friendly matches.

At 5:15 PM this afternoon (October 22nd), Coach Mai Duc Chung and his team will have their official training session at the Chongqing Sports Center.

"Against Uzbekistan, we previously lost to them 0-1 in the Paris Olympic qualifiers. I haven't forgotten that match. Uzbekistan's women's football has improved; they are now a competitor for a World Cup spot. They are physically strong and have good stamina. The upcoming matches will help the Vietnamese women's team gain experience and learn from their mistakes."

"The players will understand what they are lacking and need to improve for next year, with three tournaments: the 2026 Asian Cup qualifiers, the 2025 AFF Cup, and the 33rd SEA Games," Coach Mai Duc Chung affirmed the importance of the tournament for the Vietnamese women's national team, given that women's football does not have any official national team-level tournaments in 2024.
