Coach Park Hang-seo apologizes to South Korean fans. |
During a press conference held on the evening of June 28th at the training center in Zapopan (Mexico), coach Park Hang-seo bowed his head and apologized to the media after the South Korean national team was eliminated in the group stage of the 2026 World Cup . A representative of the Korean Football Association (KFA) admitted that the team had failed to meet fans' expectations at the tournament.
"As the head of the South Korean delegation, I would like to offer my sincerest apologies for not being able to deliver the results we hoped for. The players, coaching staff, and the entire team worked hard during the preparation and the competition, but we were unable to repay the fans' support with a deserving achievement," said Park.

The former head coach of the Vietnamese national team also emphasized that the Korean Football Association (KFA) needs to seriously acknowledge its shortcomings after the World Cup defeat. According to him, only through collective self-reflection and a determination to change can Korean football overcome its current difficulties and move towards a new beginning.
At the 2026 World Cup, the South Korean team started with a 2-1 victory against the Czech Republic but then suffered consecutive 0-1 defeats against Mexico and South Africa. This result left coach Hong Myung-bo's team in third place in Group A with only 3 points. This score was not enough for the Asian representative to qualify for the next round as one of the best third-placed teams.
Attending the press conference alongside Mr. Park was Hong Myung-bo, who also announced his resignation as head coach of the national team.
