Manager Anthony Hudson is set to have his contract extended. |
FAT President Nualphan Lamsam (Madam Pang) expressed satisfaction with what Mr. Hudson has achieved with the national team. The businesswoman stated, “Mr. Hudson has developed a long-term plan for the Thai national team. We will continue discussions and will soon provide clearer directions.”
This statement shows the great confidence that Thai football leaders have in the 45-year-old coach. Hudson was appointed by the FAT on October 22, 2025, replacing coach Masatada Ishii. Although the contract duration has not been specifically announced, the most important goal he was given was to lead the Thai national team through the AFC Asian Cup 2027 qualifiers. This is a task that Hudson and his colleagues have just accomplished.
Under the guidance of coach Hudson, Thailand is currently on a three-match winning streak, highlighted by securing qualification for the 2027 Asian Cup finals.
This achievement includes a 3-2 victory against Singapore in a friendly match at home, a resounding 4-0 win against Sri Lanka away, and most recently, a dramatic 2-1 victory against Turkmenistan in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers on March 31st.
In the context of fierce competition among Southeast Asian football teams, Thailand's decision to place its trust in a foreign coach and a long-term strategy demonstrates its determination to regain its former position in the region.
Hudson is an English coach who previously served as the Technical Director of the FAT (Football Association of Thailand). The decision to appoint him is considered a logical move by experts, as the strategist has experience working in Thailand and understands the Southeast Asian football environment.
