Livelihood support for poor households

(Quang Ngai Newspaper) - Implementing the National Target Program for Sustainable Poverty Reduction giai đoạn 2021 - 2025, Son Tinh district has effectively implemented projects supporting livelihood diversification, developing poverty reduction models, and supporting production development in the agricultural sector for poor households, near-poor households, and newly escaped-from-poverty households.

Ms. Lam Thi Hong Dao, residing in Minh Trung village, Tinh Minh commune (Son Tinh district), is taking care of the subsidized breeding cows.

After her husband passed away from cancer, Mrs. Lam Thi Hong Dao (60 years old), residing in Minh Trung village, Tinh Minh commune, faced financial difficulties. Her household was classified as near-poor. Following a review, the local authorities selected and provided Mrs. Dao with a breeding Zebu cow from the "Diversifying Livelihoods, Developing Poverty Reduction Models" project, enabling her to develop her economy . "For my family, the cow is a valuable asset. I'm trying my best to raise the cow to improve our family's economic situation and provide for my children's education," Mrs. Dao shared.

Ms. Dao's family is one of 15 poor and near-poor households in Tinh Minh commune that received support in the form of breeding cows at the beginning of 2023. The commune currently has 15 poor households and 55 near-poor households. According to Mr. Tu Tien Tai, Vice Chairman of the Tinh Minh Commune People's Committee, the locality has reviewed and selected eligible households capable of raising breeding cows to develop the model, primarily near-poor households. All households have received training in breeding techniques to ensure the model is implemented effectively. Of the 15 households that received cows, 3 have escaped near-poverty. “The locality always prioritizes poverty reduction, calling for and mobilizing resources to care for the poor, such as supporting the construction and repair of houses and providing livelihood support. To date, all poor and near-poor households in the commune have solid housing. The percentage of poor and near-poor households has decreased year by year,” Mr. Tai added.

Son Tinh District has implemented Project 2, "Diversifying Livelihoods and Developing Poverty Reduction Models," providing 30 breeding cows to 30 poor, near-poor, and newly-escaped-from-poverty households in Tinh Giang and Tinh Minh communes. Simultaneously, it has implemented Sub-project 1 of Project 3, "Supporting Production Development in the Agricultural Sector," providing 12 cows to poor, near-poor, and newly-escaped-from-poverty households in Tinh Son commune. Currently, the district is implementing 5 poverty reduction support projects for 109 poor, near-poor, and newly-escaped-from-poverty households in 7 communes. The households receiving the cows have built adequate barns, planted grass for green fodder, and raised them according to guidelines, resulting in healthy cow growth and gradually increasing family income.
