The number of guests staying is stable.
In the spacious, nature-friendly setting of An Nhien Homestay, groups of tourists arrive to check in, chatting lively and creating a warm and friendly atmosphere. This is one of the typical homestay models that is proving effective in Ha Tien ward today. In 2025, recognizing the increasingly well-invested local tourism infrastructure and the steady increase in the number of tourists each year, Ms. Le My Thanh's family, residing in Ha Tien ward, utilized their garden land to build a homestay on an area of over 500m² , with 5 rooms and a capacity of nearly 15 guests.
After a period of successful operation, in early 2026, she continued to expand by adding 4 more rooms, accommodating over 20 people, with a total investment of over 3 billion VND. Ms. Cao My An - manager of An Nhien Homestay shared: “Nowadays, tourists prefer a feeling of closeness and comfort, like being at home. Therefore, we focus on creating a welcoming and clean space. When guests are satisfied, they return or recommend us to their friends, which is also a motivation for the establishment to continue investing and improving the quality of service.”
Since the Lunar New Year of 2026, the homestay has been almost always fully booked on weekends, holidays, and festivals. Besides providing accommodation, An Nhien Homestay also introduces local cuisine and assists guests with sightseeing, contributing to a more complete experience. Mr. Tran Minh Tuan, a resident of Can Tho City, said: “I like the tranquility, the friendly atmosphere, and the genuine service of the homestay owner.”
According to the head of the Culture and Social Affairs Department of Ha Tien ward, based on initial success, the homestay model is gradually spreading throughout the area. Currently, Ha Tien ward has 14 operating homestay establishments, contributing to diversifying tourism products, meeting the increasingly high demands of tourists, extending their stay, and increasing their spending.
Towards sustainable development
Homestays not only contribute to diversifying tourism products but also open up new livelihood opportunities, helping many households increase their income. Previously, people relied solely on traditional occupations like fishing or small-scale trading, but now many families have proactively shifted towards tourism. Utilizing existing homes and investing in renovations has reduced initial costs while still yielding significant economic benefits. Homestays also drive the development of related services such as food and beverage, sightseeing, and transportation rentals, thereby creating jobs for local workers and contributing to local economic development.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Lan, a tourist from Ho Chi Minh City, shared: “Previously, when I came to Ha Tien, I mainly stayed in guesthouses. But now, my family chooses to stay in homestays because of the close-knit and cozy atmosphere. The hosts are very enthusiastic, guiding us on tours and introducing us to local dishes, making the trip more meaningful.”
Positive feedback from tourists is not only an acknowledgment of the quality of service but also a motivation for homestay establishments to continue improving and creating their own unique identity. According to the head of the Culture and Social Affairs Department of Ha Tien ward, along with development, the homestay model in Ha Tien also reveals some limitations such as small scale and inconsistent quality. Some establishments do not fully meet the criteria regarding facilities, environmental hygiene, and service skills for tourists. Therefore, it is necessary to upgrade and improve to meet the increasingly high demands of tourists.
