Phia Oắc (or Phja Oắc as it's called locally) is part of the Non Nuoc Cao Bang Geopark system, recognized by UNESCO as a Global Geopark in April 2018. At 1,931 meters, Phia Oắc is the second highest peak in Cao Bang, considered the "roof" of the western part of the province. The diverse topography, geology, and unique climate have created distinctive ecosystems in this mountainous region. The diverse vegetation changes with altitude from the foot to the summit, particularly the dwarf forest ecosystem and "mossy forests" clinging densely to ancient trees. The higher you climb, the more breathtaking the scenery unfolds. From the summit of Phia Oắc, you can see glimpses of the houses of the Dao, Nung, and Tay ethnic groups. In the distance, the Quang Thanh River meanders, embracing the borderland.
